Chapter #43

She gives her information and leaves.

You look up at Tara. Despite the familiarity, you are still in awe, yet you see a friend. Just a 1300 foot or so friend. "I think you're smart enough to remember this." She utters softly as she can. "360..." You memorize her number over and over. It helps that is rings in your head for a few seconds. She then leans slightly down from her crouched position, head cocked towards you with her right eye on you and her right ear relatively close. You speak through your speakers "360..." "You got it" Tara bellows down at you, her smile all the wider.

This is the point you should say something smart. Something caring. But nothing immediately comes to mind. You can see her hesitating to rise. To just leave this small glade and just walk away from the most amazing thing she'd ever witnessed. Her smile starts to fade a bit. So, you do what you can. "Tara!" She catches your small voice just as she's seeming to rise on her mighty muscles to human height. She halts. "Yes. Richard?" She sounds cautious, but hopeful. You shout to ensure you are heard by the colossus of a woman. "You are an incredible person! I never imagined for the last months to meet anyone, let alone someone like you! A person so caring, so gentle, so..." You pause a long moment and state down to the grains of dirt you've been familiar with for months. You decide to finish your statement and look up. Tara has a pair of tears coming down her beautiful face. You determine to finish. "Incredible. I look forward to our future adventures."

Tara stares down at the tiny creature before her booted feet. It's barely above an ant, but it's name is Richard and it's a human man, just tiny. After everything they'd been through over the last few days, she could say she experienced things she'd never expected. Even now, a part of her wanted to grab the little man and take him to her grad school dormitory room to keep him safe from all the danger surrounding him. Maybe to share in understanding his technology, or possibly, disturbingly to her that she thought it, reveal him to the world for her benefit. But she relented. She hated that part of herself that would even think that. For many reasons she knew better. Her and his shared humanity, his will to remain independent and free, his plans to help people, and a bit of a desire that she may one day join in those efforts. And not a little that she liked him. She sighed hard, letting something, well someone, go like this was missing the discovery of a millennia.

Tara blinked, and the two tears dropped from her cheeks as she rose to her full height. "Please, stay safe. I want to see you again in 2 months okay?" From your perspective, two you sized globs of water flew down towards you. You backed up a few feet to be sure, but they crashed down about 30 feet from your location, sounding nothing like bombs, just wooshes through the air that then splashed hard into the ground, which quickly absorbed them. She was crying.

With no more words, Tara rose to her full, intense height. Air displacing around her. She stared down at you with an intensity, her eyes a bit red, but no more tears. She sent a signal with those eyes, stay alive. You nodded, highly unsure if she could see it. She nodded to you, though, so maybe. With that her left booted foot lifted and crossed over the root of the tree that protected your home with the wind displacing. A dull, but noticeable thud followed, the rest of her soon joined her left leg as she began thundering back towards the old path you'd figured no one would ever deviate from. Miles away to you, a couple hundred meters for her.

Within brief seconds, her mass had left your view. You almost felt more alone than when you started this project. Suddenly, the sounds of your world begin to return. Some insects chirping, the wind shaking the trees, the call of a mega fauna or two. Whereas you had recently been under enrapturing allure and the protection of such a powerful being, now you were back to a desperate, solitary existence based on the study of life at this size. You look above at the grand tree canopy, watching the leaves crackle and blow in the wind, the thuds of the giantess now fade completely away. Then you focus on the grass canopy not far away. It too blows, but less, as the wind is high above for the most part. You grasp your spear and begin your walk into the miniature jungle. You have tasks that must be done, regardless of humans or spiders or anything. Time to continue your Tiny Survival.
