Shelter is what you decide to prioritize. Nothing is a bad choice in this initial encounter stage but not being decisive while you have the time and energy can be fatal. Your reasoning for building the shelter is to have a temporary base of operations and safety until you can expand and learn how to survive better. Also, more simply, shelters take time and who knows how long it will be before it gets dark by the time you find a place and then actually build the shelter. Most predators are active at night and you are now in the food chain of various creatures out there.
You walk through the dense forests, the blades of grass and vines brushing against you already start to rip apart your uniform which was old and weak to begin with. Soon you may have to make clothing for yourself and when you get proficient who knows what kind of tools, clothing, and shelters you will be making. But for now, you are near defenseless and just hoping you do not run into anything carrying nothing but a busted machete that is barely sharp enough to pierce grass. Between the clicking noises and moans, you are on constant edge of a predatory spider sweeping out the grass and piecing your chest with its fangs. The noises you create do not help either as the ground is littered with brown, dead grass that crumbles under your feet and there are the noises created from your pushing through the grass.
Pushing through more blades you hear particularly loud click and you freeze still. The sounds of grass moving sounds despite you being still and you look to your left to see a black figure the size of a truck through several pieces of grass, you are unable to identify it but it is way bigger than you which is enough to leave you standing still. A few minutes pass when it disappears and you quickly run forward.
You make it to a small circular clearing with dark soil on the ground instead of dead grass. This is as good a spot as any for now, so you start to get to work. You became good at making tents but you did not pack a portable tent with you due to its weight so you will have to build from scratch. Using your machete, you cut down a blade of grass and cut large chunks out of it and then cut very thin pieces to make a vine or rope. You then make small holes into the large chunks of grass and put the rope through the holes to tie them together. A green, shoddy, makeshift tent is soon standing in the middle of the clearing. It is far from perfect and provides very little protection from any creature that truly wants to reach you but it is way better than sleeping in the open and makes for an OK hiding spot against the low developed brains of the bugs. They may be stronger but at least you are waaay smarter.
From making this shelter your crafting and shelter making skills have increased. You also move around the grass jungle a little more efficiently making your traveling skills better. Unfortunately, your machete is ever weaker from using what sharpness it has left to cut the grass and you have not eaten yet so your energy level is significantly lower, especially after traveling and building a shelter.
You lounge inside your tent away from the sun and decide to...
