Chapter #5

Stopping For A Snack

by: evil dude Author IconMail Icon
Richie doubted anyone was still alive near the truck, but it was closer than the police car and still worth a look before moving on. With his gun drawn he tried pulling the back door the rest of the way open, but it wouldn't budge any further than it already was. With a sigh Richie picked up a few miniature boxes of cereal and put them away in case he needed a snack later. Afterwards he headed up front to check where the driver should be.

Unfortunately, the sight of a blood coated door window told him all he needed to know about the unfortunate person who had been transporting the truck. "Wonder if there is anything up here that might be useful?" Richie whispered to himself as he hopped up and swung open the door. At least it wasn't locked.

A putrid smell hit Richie in the face as the image of a dead man slumped against the seat filled his vision. A trail of blood leading from a gash on the top of his head to the side of the door gave Richie all the info he needed on how the trucker perished. Just as Richie moved over to open the dash box the man stirred and let out a soft groan. Startled, Richie pulled himself back as the man opened his eyes and stared at Richie.

"What in the name of god...?" Richie whispered in a horrified tone as the glowing green light of the truckers once hazel eyes focused on him. Before he could react the man lunged and bit into Richie's arm with a mouth filled with razor sharp teeth. With a pained scream Richie instinctively pulled the trigger on his gun and fired a round through the Infectors neck that pierced the opposite door window and caused a fresh spray of blood to splatter over his face.

Gasping for breath Richie stumble out onto the snowy road with a thud, his gun dropping and landing just under the bottom of the semi. His eyes widened in fear when he realized his whole body was going numb as the zombie trucker climbed out to finish him. Richie prayed for a quick death as the thing got to its feet, but was surprised when it just stood over him, still leaking blood through its neck hole.

As Richie passed out his last confused thoughts where of the world that had existed just a few days ago. A snowy little town where the most exciting things to happen were usually just a flat tire or a disorderly drunk. As the minutes passed after his heart stopped beating the Infector lurched off in search of more prey to add to the growing hordes of undead. When Richie's eyes finally opened again they were filled with a hateful red light and a lust for carnage. After climbing to his feet he too left in search of fresh victims.
