Richie knew he couldn't just wait here for days on end while the town descended further into chaos, if he didn't act soon hundreds of more people could die. "Alright, I'll just scout the neighborhood for now, see how many people are still alive." he said as he grabbed a duffle bag and began loading it with supplies such as spare clips for his handgun, some flares and a miniature first aid kit.
Once he had the bag half filled with equipment he slung it over his shoulder and grabbed his nightstick off of a nearby table along with his police hat. Before leaving he took the time to hide a few emergency supply stashes in case of looters and made sure everything was locked up.
After also making sure the coast was clear Richie slowly opened his front door and began carefully walking down his driveway. The bushes and abandoned vehicles made excellent spots for an ambush, something that kept him on his guard as he stepped out onto the snow covered sidewalk.
Up ahead was a large overturned semi with its back trailer door stuck half open due to some sort of jam. In the cargo hold were several stacked boxes of food such as canned goods and cereal. Most of the packages looked untouched, but a few were torn open in places and a large red smear of blood had frozen over the side of one of the containers.
Richie was just about to investigate when he noticed a wrecked police cruiser from his department crashed into someone's yard about 50 feet further down the street. The cracked windshield and bloodstains made it clear that whoever had been inside was dead, though there might still be some supplies inside it as well.
In the distance an echo of moans began softly blowing through the trees...
