...You see a small village with a well.

You step forward, but you don't drink from the well. Not yet. You don't know if the villagers would be upset by it, or indeed if there is anyone in the village. For all you know, someone poisoned the well and all the citizens drank from it and died. Instead you drink a few sips from one of your water bottles and entertain that silly line of thought a little bit longer.

You put the bottle back into your backpack, and walk through the village. The outskirts are quiet, but as you go deeper into the village, you start to see signs of life. You hear voices, and see movements behind windows. You pass another well. You round a corner toward the sound of some children playing and...

You stop.

The creatures in front of you are undoubtedly children's, and they have yet to notice you, as they're engaged in a fierce game of tag. They are dressed in simple clothing, light in color, and designed to keep out the heat. They seem to be, by almost all accounts, to be ordinary children. But they're covered in fur, and they have faces that resemble animals, as well as tails and paws. You recognize two jackrabbits and a hyena. Before you can do much of anything one of the children, this one a coyote, bumps into you. The child looks up at you, seeming stunned. You say the first thing that comes to mind.

"Um, excuse me."
