After he had mentioned Alice, you were curious if Randall’s parents knew about what had transpired. Asking him, Randall revealed that Doctor Kerry had not spoken to his parents yet and has left that decision up to him. You followed up by asking if he was going to tell his parents, suggesting that he should at least tell his dad. He frowned at your suggestion and quickly shot it down.
"I don't really see the point," he shrugged. "Now that I have to live as Allison… as a girl, Alice will probably think I'm some sort of abomination, and Dad is too pussy whipped to give a shit about me anymore."
Ever since Alice entered his life, Randall’s family life had been utterly miserable for him. Alice was the hardcore religious type and she was, as Randall described, ‘bat shit insane’. She constantly harassed random people, claiming that they are not deserving of “God’s love”, this including Randall. Her hardcore religious beliefs and Randall’s lighthearted nature clashed against each other, resulting in a dysfunctional relationship between the two. To make matters worse, Randall's father would always side with Alice, leaving Randall even more frustrated from the lack of support from his own father. As an escape, Randall would often visit your house and hang out with you and your family. He was pretty much the 'honorary' member of your family with how much time he had spent at your place.
"I told you, I might as well be dead to them already," Randall turned away and looked uncomfortable. After a small pause, he continued “Hell, I’d rather tell your parents about it, they were more of my family than Dad or Alice ever were.”
Now that you think about it, you were wondering if your parents should know. Allison’s parents already know the truth about their daughter, your parents were indeed more of Randall’s parental figures than Alice and Randall’s father ever were. You felt like you should tell them, but ultimately, it wasn’t your decision, it was Randall’s. He’s the one with the new body after all.
"Well, I’ll leave that up to you, it’s your decision after all," You replied, "I’ll admit I’m gonna miss having you at my house. Video games, movies, the pool, barbecue… it was fun.”
"Yeah, it really was..." After a brief moment, Randall jumped to his feet and grabbed your arms. "I mean, I can still come over! Just because I'm in Allison's body now doesn't mean we can't hang out! We’re still best friends and that’s never going to change!”
You had a disturbing feeling flow through you when Randall grabbed your arms. Something was wrong. You don't see a reason why Randall couldn't come over, but the mention of Randall coming over to your house was bothering you. Allison had been to your place several times so there was no reason why your parents would have any issues with it. So why was this bugging you so much? You couldn’t think of a reason why until you looked back over at Randall.
Allison’s bright blue eyes were staring at you. Her long blonde hair was a frizzled mess, but still maintained its gorgeous shine. You could still see faded hints of light make up and her soft red lips were chapped. She looked like she had just woken up, but despite her current messy appearance, she was still one of the most beautiful girls you have ever seen.
You snap out of your trance and shake your head. This isn’t Allison, this is Randall! Suddenly, you realized what was bothering you. Allison is gone, and her body is now being used by your best friend. The thought of Allison being dead finally registered in your brain and caused your stomach to sink. The two of you had daydreamed of sharing an apartment together, going to the same college, and even one day getting married and having kids. Dreams that were now dead in the water.
"Hey Tim... are you okay?" Randall asked with a concerned look on his face, obviously seeing that your mood had soured.
"U-um, I-I.." you broke away from Randall’s grasp and took a few steps back. You weren't sure what to say. Randall had a confused look on his face. Obviously you didn't want to make Randall feel guilty for taking Allison’s place, it wouldn't be fair to him anyways. He was, of course, your best friend, but he wasn't Allison. While he is technically your girlfriend, he's still the same old Randall that you’ve known since kindergarten. Fortunately, your mental crisis came to an end as Doctor Kerry walked through the door, snapping you out from your troubled thoughts.
"Ah, I'm sorry to interrupt your reunion,” Doctor Kerry turned to close the door behind him. “I didn't know you two were still talking"
"No worries" Randall took a seat back on the bed, "I suppose you're here for a check up?"
"Something like that," Doctor Kerry pulled out a clipboard from his lab coat. "I actually needed to talk to you about your NDA. I’m also going to go over some of the finer details about your situation and have you sign some documents"
"Ahhh, the 'serious' stuff" Randall said with a deep voice and made air quotes with his hands. You could tell he was trying to impersonate Doctor Kerry, but it came off poorly with Allison’s soft voice.
Doctor Kerry chuckled at Randall's poor impersonation, "Yup, it's about time we got down to business. While you're not cleared to go just yet, I'd like to take care of this stuff and get it out of the way. Save you the trouble later when you're medically discharged"
"Speaking of medically discharged" Doctor Kerry turned towards you. "Tim, you're free to go, I already contacted your parents and they should be on their way. You should go get dressed and wait for them out in the lobby. There's still some paperwork you'll need to fill out at the desk, but it shouldn't take long."
"O-oh, okay" You were surprised you were getting discharged before Randall. Although you shouldn't be, you're not the one whose brain got transplanted into another person. "Guess I'll get going then" You make your way out the room before Randall calls out to you.
"Come on dude, not gonna give a goodbye hug to your best bud before ya go?" You turned back and saw Randall with both arms stretched out, clearly anticipating you to give him a hug. "You get the sweet taste of freedom and I'm stuck in this prison by myself? Come onnnnn, give me a hug before ya go" Randall motioned for you to come towards him, raising one of his eyebrows. Yup, definitely expecting a hug. You complied and walked over to him before he suddenly pounced on you, giving you a massive bear hug.
"Ack! Dude! Are you trying to strangle me?" You tried to pull away, but Randall was not letting up his grasp and giggled at your squirming, "I'm just so happy to see you're okay, I was afraid you might have gotten hurt in our accident, but comparatively, you got off easy!" Randall continued to hold his grip for what seemed like centuries before he finally released you.
"Haha, y-yeah..." You take a step back while grabbing your throat. Jesus! You didn’t expect that vice grip strength coming from Allison’s body, that hug was like a death trap! There was something off putting about his behavior, he seemed to be the same old Randall, but Randall was never the hugging type, Allison was. Randall usually sticks to a fist bump or a simple wave. I’m overthinking it, we were in an accident after all. You convinced yourself. Anyone would have that behavior if they were involved in an accident.
Doctor Kerry gave a small chuckle while you tried to regain your breath. "Alright, that's enough for now you two. Tim, go gather up your things and get changed before your parents get here, I’ll take care of Randall from here.”
"I'll call ya later dude!" Randall smiled.
Seeing Randall smile was like a punch to the gut. What normally would have been a goofy smile from Randall was replaced with Allison’s beautiful smile. Allison didn't have the biggest boobs or ass, but she still had a lean, athletic body. Her long blonde hair, shiny blue eyes, and warming smile always managed to brighten up your day. She was easily one of the hottest girls at your school, something Randall had often teased you about.
"Y-yeah, I'll talk to you soon..." Trying your best to give a smile back.
You left the room as Randall and Doctor Kerry gave you a farewell wave. As you close the door behind you, your dark thoughts from earlier soon found its way to return to you. Allison was dead, while that person you hugged looked exactly like her, it wasn't Allison. You walked down the empty halls of the hospital while these thoughts continued to echo in your head. You had to tell your family that Randall was dead. No, you had to pretend to the whole WORLD that your best friend was dead. You start to feel a mixture of depression and anger. Why did that accident have to happen?! Why did Allison have to die?! The three of you were in a car together, chatting and laughing away until that truck hit your van.
After a short walk, you finally entered your room and slammed the door in frustration, accidentally knocking over the IV stand close by. Shit, didn’t mean to do that… You blankly stare at the fallen IV stand and began to think of alternative scenarios of how you could have avoided the accident. You shake your head as you realize that this wasn’t doing your mind any good.
“There’s no point…” you murmured as you made your way towards your bed.
Allison is gone and there was nothing you could do to change that. You fall back and sink onto the bed. The three of you had been in the car coming back from a football game before the accident, you were driving with Allison in the passenger seat next to you and Randall in the seat behind her. You remembered Allison getting angry with Randall because he kept messing with her hair. The two of them didn’t always get along, but they still remained good friends. You burst into tears as you reminisce about your past memories with them until you hear a knock on your door.
