Chapter #5

Soulmates

by: Baby Tai Author IconMail Icon
Jack couldn't explain it, he always suspected that he may not be straight, the whole concept of being homosexual wasn't absent in his family, his uncle had a husband and several of his cousins were queer. The only problem was that he wasn't sure how his parents would react, it frightened him to think that they could be mad at him for being gay. Before it wasn't overly a problem, he wasn't 100% certain he was gay since he wasn't really in love, but that changed quite considerably on his thirteenth birthday; the first few times didn't stick out too much to Jack, he had dreams of a guy, it wasn't until the dreams kept coming and Jack could feel himself yearning for him, it was then Jack started to worry as he was indeed gay. Several weeks past and Jack's love for this dream boy grew stronger, he didn't know what to do, how do you date someone who doesn't exist? how was he even able to love someone who didn't exist.

"Jack honey, is everything ok?" Jack's mum asked, sensing the boy's discomfort as they rode home in the car, "you look like you haven't slept in days."
"It's nothing really," Jack replied, trying to avoid the subject.
"Come on, I'm your mum," she reminded, "you can tell me anything." Jack took a deep breath.
"I've been having these weird dreams," Jack informed, "there about a girl, and I think I've falling in love with her," he lied, he wasn't sure what his mother's reaction would be so for now she didn't need to know it was a guy in the dream.
"Have you ever met this girl before?" she asked, looking at Jack through the rear-view mirror. Jack shook his head before answering.
"I've never seen them before in my life," Jack replied.
"Interesting," she mused, "you know in some mythologies they believe that people have dreams about their soulmate when they're about to meet them."
"Really?" Jack asked skeptically, "that seems a little silly."
"You may think so kiddo but how do you think I fell in love with your father?" she asked with a smirk.
"Are you serious?" Jack asked, surprised now, "you two are soulmates?"
"We'd have to be to still be together after the stress raising you brought to us," she joked it a wicked smile. Jack huffed before inevitably grinning. "Jack, if this person really is your soulmate that you're seeing make sure that when you meet her care for her and befriend her, there's a reason they're called soulmates." That night Jack went to bed and had the same dream of the boy that was apparently his soulmate. He looked at all his features, all the features he found attractive.
