Brandon decided a Marvel character were best. In DC, there was a wide powerset of characters, but the way things had been established was that they were more like benevolent Gods who helped mankind. A lot of build up in their stories had been about them earning humanities trust and acceptance, something they wouldn't properly have in real life right away on Earth. They usually weren't that personable either, when they weren't working everyday jobs, they lived and were employed on a Giant space station in the sky thousands of miles away from any relate-able normal human.
Most of the Marvel characters were still civilians aswell, ones that lives among people and knew how to behave and socialize properly. Many of them were even sons and daughters, or fathers and mothers themselves. Atleast Spiderman was in some instances, and the X-men and Avengers were mixed bags. But I'd still be a fun option to try!
