Amy dutifully copied down the data of her latest test, and then began going over the results. After a few hours of pouring over her months experiments, trying to discover a pattern to the data, Amy was forced to conclude that she couldn't find any. There seemed to be a slight correlation between the amount of fat on her body and the amount of power her fireballs packed, but it wasn't strong enough to definitely say anything. And Amy knew that if she wanted her theory to stand up to the scrutiny of the mages on the High Council, she'd have to have results that were much more conclusive.
After that, Amy took a look at something else that was beginning to concern her; her expenses. Between the lavish meals she'd been eating at the general cost it took to maintain a tower, her funds were beginning to run dry. Even the royal salary she was earning wasn't quite enough to cover everything. Amy had tried to appeal to the finance minister of the kingdom to increase her pay, but the musty old dwarf had apologized and said that money was tight everywhere. After looking over her ledger, trying to see what things she might be able to do without, she sighed and set it down. She was just too accustomed to her lifestyle, and couldn't imagine doing without anything. Which meant she'd have to find a way to make more money, and only one way leapt to her mind.
Amy despised adventuring. She really did. She had delved into a few ruins and goblin caves after finishing her apprenticeship, as most young mages did. Everything about the whole enterprise she found revolting. It was tiring, dirty, dangerous work, and one was expected to eat lightly while doing so. However, the treasure that one found in an undiscovered tomb or a dragon's hoard would be an awfully convenient way to solve Amy's money problems. And until those were solved, she wouldn't be able to continue her experiments.
As she looked around her tower for odds and ends that would be useful while adventuring, Amy thought about how she should go about the enterprise. Mainly, if she should try and go it alone or not. If she searched a ruin on her own and found some treasure, she'd be able to keep all of it for herself. But splitting the treasure with a party also meant splitting the risk, in case she ran into something that her magic couldn't work on. She made her decision after she had gotten everything ready.
