It was a bright sunny day as Alexis walked to the nearby research facility. It was summer and a full time job was at hand. Her professor was able to get her to be an assistant to a popular scientist who was working on a method of teleporting live beings using an artificial wormhole. This was Dr. Denise Pointdexter, a medium brown haired woman who was in her mid thirties expecting her first child soon though a single mother. She had the money to support her but the time would be something else. She had an amazing crew as well as the government's finance.
Alexis wore a light blue turtle neck sweater with dark denim pants and slip on leather shoes. She had to wear a hard hat and protective goggles like the other scientist. She was assisting Dr. Pointdexter with the large CPU that was in the dead center of the compound. On each side were two what seemed like landing pads with grids top and bottom. There was a lot of large wiring and large cables about. The professor had been on work on this project for at least two years when a breakthrough came when they were able to transfer a potted plant from one pad to the other. It was unaffected by the wormhole and other effects that would cause it to stand still like the chronosphere. This one was more compact but had several safety features.
"Alexis give me the tablet connected to the main CPU." said Denise as Alexis did so. They were going to experiment using a live sheep as the guinea pig this time around. Everyone was excited as Alexis. Denise signaled the start up as she pressed a few things on the digital pad. The machine sprang to life as the turbines hummed.
"All systems go on this end." said one male scientist.
"All go here!" said the other male scientist on the other side of the machine.
"I'm lucky to have this job and to be with you Dr. Pointdexter. I've learned a lot and am grateful from the bottom of my heart." Alexis said beside Denise who smiled at her.
"I'm lucky to have you as an assistant. One who enjoys this field of work and I hope I can hire you after you graduate from college." said Denise as she wrapped her arm around Alexis's left arm. Alexis smiled knowing she would have a job after she graduates.
"Has the distortion bracelet been attached to the sheep?" asked Denise "Its important so that it doesn't become affect by the jump it will perform."
"Why is it so important, Dr. Pointdexter?"" asked Alexis.
"It will protect it from particles that will freeze it since it disturbs time itself. The purpose of this test is to ensure that the teleportation is successful as our theory dictates." said Denise as she pointed it out on the tablet she was holding towards Alexis. Denise saw the thumbs up by one of the female scientists.
"Okay!! Commence the test!!! Real Live Jump!!! Initiate!!!" said Denise as the turbines increased as electric currents could be seen surrounding the pads where the sheep were in. The sheep panicked but are unable to get out. Just as the teleportation was to take place....
