In the Forensics Laboratory

by: Giga Melanie Author IconMail Icon
You are Chrissy Mahlberg, 24 years old, but despite your young age already one of the top scientists in the TFPD Forensic Laboratory, specifically the Transformation Identification part of it. Your work wasn't always easy to stomach, but someone had to do it, and you were thankful that you were on the side of the researcher, rather than of the researched.

You were currently alone in the laboratory, doing overtime, after you received a box filled with various objects that were retrieved from one of the TFPD's busts earlier today. Usually none of these would've grabbed anyone's attention, they were just various mundane objects like pens, pillows, some clothes, dolls, etc., but the weird part was that this box was apparently what was supposed to be sold, for a very generous price as well.
Since then you've been going through them one by one, and to your horror every single one tested positive as a transformed human. Of course this wasn't your first time dealing with inanimate transformations, but you had never encountered something on this scale, a whole box of people turned into mundane objects. The worst part was that you yourself could do nothing besides actually confirming they were human, you couldn't even determine whether these people were still alive and sentient, the only way to find that out was to reverse the transformation, which another department of the TFPD was responsible for.

You were now working on your report, having finished the tests and returned all the objects back into their box, of course as gently and carefully as possible, when suddenly the door to your lab opened and a woman in TFPD attire waltzed in.

"Gwen Harleigh, TFPD officer, I'm here to speak with you Miss Mahlberg", she said as she held her TFPD badge towards you, confirming that she was in fact who she claimed to be.

"Ah, feel free to call me Chrissy. If you're here about the box I was almost finished with the report on it, they seem to actually be transformed humans just as suspected."

"Alright, Chrissy, likewise feel free to call me Gwen. And, well, it's sort of about that. You see, we got some of the scum we arrested to talk, and it turns out this box is only scratching the surface of a huge human trafficking network hidden through inanimate transformation. But to get to the point, TFPD wants someone to go undercover and investigate, specifically both of us."

You were speechless for a second, not quite believing what you just heard.

"Huh, they want... me? But why?! I'm just a researcher, I don't investigate!", you manage to eventually splurt out.

"Well, not to brag, but while I'm very good at my job I do lack the knowledge or skills to identify transformations on the fly, which is rather important for this, so that's where you come in. No need to worry, I'll make sure nothing happens to you, I promise."

"Hm, I suppose I don't have much of a choice anyway, so I'll go with you. Though you better make sure to keep your promise!"

"Attagirl. Now, follow me to my office so we can discuss matter further please."

You quickly scribble a note saying "DO NOT TOUCH! Deliver to Kathy Hoang" and stick it to the box of objects before you follow Gwen out of the laboratory.
