This choice: You wake up to the call at dawn. Time for your mission at your new job! + • Go Back...Chapter #4Just a bad dream on the first day of training by: ItsMe "Help!" You ran for your life as your voice escapes from your mouth.
You dashed behind a coffee maker, fleeing from whatever is chasing you. "Someone please help!" you hear you voice once more. Breathing heavily, your feet begin to move once more, but you couldn't get far. A hand swipes you off your feet from behind and carries you to its masters face, a leona with light green eyes that you can feel its gaze penetrate you. You clench your hands together in a begging manner and plea "Please don't hurt me! I didn't do anything wrong!"
Your captor merely shrugged as she licked your body down and up while purring. You repeat your plea once more but this time she acknowledge it by opening her gaping maw. You stare into the depths, looking at her chops with teary vision.
You close your eyes and plea with no more sound than a whisper, "Don't do it.". Tears fell from your cheek as she drop you and bit down on your waist.
You scream as you fall off onto the wooden floor beside your bed. You breathe heavily once more and wipe some sweat from your brow. A micen sitting in a chair stared at you, his eyes deviating from his book.
"What are you looking at?" you growl between your teeth, "And what are you doing in my room?"
"I-I was told to come to you by dawn. I am your new apprentice, R-Ritler told me to-" he stopped talking as you shake your hand at him in annoyance, rubbing your tired eyes.
He is too nervous for his own good. you think.
"You were shifting around in your sleep a lot. You had to be having a hell of a nightmare." he continued.
You study him: orange fur, white belly, blonde hair and green eyes. Simple white pants on. He's the same micen from before that greeted you on your return to Quill. He sat, ankles crossed, reading what seemed to be a book. "What are you reading?" you gesture towards the book, "Where did you get that anyways?"
He showed you the cover of it, a crude drawing of Solace. "It's a survival guide, miss.. Err.. Madam.. Sir?" his nervousness reminds you of a juvenile. "S-Some guy by the name of Jason give it to me for free. Is that bad?". You stand next to him and read a line from the book.
"Solace will treat micen more respectfully if they make a good first impression. You do this by bravely listening and obeying her every whim, no matter what she says"
You sigh, "You are lucky that you didn't have to trade food for this. The first thing Solace will do is decide whether to chew or swallow." The sound of a bell rings through the streets. "That's our cue, kid." you mock as you pat his shoulder and put on your clothes.
You don't really own a shirt, you lost it on a mission when someone mugged you. They tore it off when they tried to grab you. Jerk's gut met the business end of a needle. Luckily, they didn't mess up your pants, you had Solace to thank for that. The pants aren't special, the'y just jeans with some tears, but they are your pants. Not many mice can say that.
You opened the shack door and stepped out
"I'm not a kid, not anymore!" he snarls.
"You know, no longer being a juvenile makes you fair game to Solace, right?" you snarl back "And just because you stopped being one a few days ago won't get you any special treatments." On that note, you both made your way towards the entrance to meet up with Ritler once more. On your way, you see him a bit jittery and ask "What is your name? Or should I just call you kid?"
He looked at the ground. "M-Mango, they call me Mango." You hold in a chuckle, you almost want to see him eaten so that his name would be fitting."Go ahead and laugh at it, I heard it all before."
You give him a quick glance and said "The only name worse than that for a micen is 'morsel'. Why did your parents call you that?"
"M-my parents didn't name me, they died shortly after my third month birthday." he croaked.
He's too young to be talking about this.
"My uncle forgot my real name, so he just named me after his favorite fruit."
"I don't recall seeing Solace having many mangoes." you state.
"I am not from here, I was born where Risa lives."
You pause. She's real?
You finally make it to Ritler. He hands you and Mango a satchel and a backpack. "Don't lose those, they are hard to make." Ritler adds "If you know you are about to be caught, do the right thing and hide them. Try not to return without those filled with food. Any questions?" indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
