"Whatever you say, boss," said the figure on the right, a slight urban accent coloring the young woman's words. There was a slight touch of insubordination and disrespect to her tone, her words spoken at least half sarcastically.
T.O. Morrow disregarded this, knowing that this woman would do what he said regardless of her attitude. She had to. He had Bumblebee right where he wanted her, and she knew it.
The figure on the left, more slender than her fairly well-curved companion, flicked bright eyes with pink irises, pupils shaped like slits, over various monitors lining the walls. They showed various locations throughout the city, especially such ones as were frequented by the West Cove Titans.
One showed the half-demon empath, Raven, and the shapeshifter, Beast Boy, sitting at a table in the Titans Tower.
The girl scowled the slightest bit, before returning her gaze to their employer. She did not relish doing this kind of work again, judging by appearance, from the way her lips were pursed and her face was drawn, tight and pale.
"What do you need us to do?" she said, and her voice did not have Jinx's accustomed cheer, feigned or otherwise. It was even, measured, precisely so.
T.O. Morrow, hooked up to his life support, still managed a quiet scoff at the transparency of these girls. They would turn against him the first chance they got, he knew, but still they could prove useful until then. He had other servants, others who would do his bidding more loyally when the time came, but Bumblebee and Jinx would be very useful weapons against the Titans of West Cove City.
Every tool had its own purpose, and time to be used. Thomas O. Morrow knew this better than just about anyone, and he had every intention of using these two until they broke, until they could no longer be kept in line. And then he would dispose of them.
Because a tool that did not do its job had no reason to exist.

Back at Titans Tower, Terra was sipping a can of grape soda, sitting on the couch with Super Girl as they watched...
Well, she didn't know what it was, at the moment, because Super Girl kept changing the channel, like, every five seconds, but it looked interesting. There were two young adults, beautiful in the way that only glitzed up big screen movie stars were, and it looked like they were about to kiss.
Terra watched intently as the characters' lips drew closer together. She knew nothing about the circumstances of the kiss, the backstory of the characters, their motivations or personalities, but that didn't matter. The guy was hot, and the girl was pretty cute too, she supposed, with blonde hair and blue eyes like herself.
In the deepest recesses of her imagination, she envisioned that she was the girl on screen, and that the young man was Beast Boy, and if her cheeks grew faintly pink at the thought, well, Super Girl didn't make any comments.
Then there was click, a brief hiss of static, and now the screen showed some guy being chased by a dinosaur.
Terra fought the urge to scowl. Did she do anything? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
