Chapter #6

Meeting Rainbow Crash

    by: Unknown
Just as you started thinking of settling down and building some kind of shelter for the night, your thoughts were interrupted by a piercing scream erupting from above the tree canopy. You immediately braced yourself for a fight as you hear something burst through the canopy of tree leaves, branches snapping under its weight as it descends.

You were expecting some kind of airborne beast to come crashing down on you, but to your relief, the form you were seeing was just another pony. It was a pegasus that had apparently crash landed into the forest, and was now hanging limply as the strange jumpsuit it was wearing got snagged on a tree branch. As you got closer, you recognized the unnatural bright blue hues of its fur and the rainbow pattern of its mane. You paused, not believing your luck. It was Rainbow Dash!

She groaned, still stunned from her fall. She was covered in bruises, with one severe wound on her front leg and both wings looking completely broken. She didn't seem to be fully conscious.

"Hey! Do you need some help?" You yell, trying to knock her out of whatever stupor the crash had fallen her into.

She came to immediately. "What...? Oh, haha... that was quite a crash..." She groaned, and wriggled against the tree branch she was hanging from, tearing her jumpsuit to pieces and causing her to fall to the ground. You run over to her.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine..." She grumbled, and attempt to stand up, only to squeal as a tinge of agony bolted through her wounded leg and to fall back to the ground. "Ok, ok, I might need a little help."

You help her to a little clearing, and she sits down on a log that had been placed down horizontally, taking a moment to get her bearings. Judging from the scraps of litter everywhere, and the makeshift firepit in the middle of the clearing, it seems somebody had been using it as a campsite long ago.

You clump some grass into a small pile in the fire pit. Then you press a small, sturdy stick against a wooden plank and start rolling it back and forth in your hooves. You figure it would be nearly impossible with these clunky new hooves, but to your surprise, you get a burning ember within seconds. What the hell kind of wood is this?

You drop the ember into the tinder nest, and spend the next half hour working on it until you get a decent fire going. Just in time, too- it was pitch black outside. Content with your work, you walked over to the little log chair and sat down next to the pegasus, the both of you relaxing by the campfire.

"Thanks for being such a big help, kid. I just about went unconscious after that crash, and I don't think I ever would've woken up if you hadn't come along." Rainbow remarked.

"Think nothing of it." You said dismissively, but you couldn't hide your smile as you fed more grass into the fire pit.

"What were you doing all the way out here in the Everfree, anyway? Don't you know how dangerous it is?" She quizzed.

"I can handle myself." You replied, dodging the question.

She chuckled. "I can see that."

"So, does anybody know that you're out here?" You queried, getting down to business.

"Uh... no, not really. I didn't tell anybody where I was going, I was just flying randomly about. I doubt anypony has any idea where I am." She said, going a little pale as the severity of her situation dawns on her.

"So, we're not going to be getting any search parties coming around here, then?"

"Doubt it."

You sigh. "That's fine. I think I know the way out of this forest, anyway. We just have to head east along that river back there."

"Oh? How long's the trip?"

"Umm... I don't know. A few hour's walk at the very least."

Instead of speaking, she just gestures to the massive wound in her leg. You groan, seeing what she meant. No way she was going to be walking around with an injury like that. Plus, if it goes untreated for too long, she was definitely going to die from either infection or bloodloss.

The way you see it, you have two possibilities if you both want to make it out of the forest alive, both with an equally low chance of working out...

You have the following choices:

1. Stay there and wait for help

*Noteb*
2. Try to make it out of the forest on foot

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
