Wake-up Call!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------

You weren't woken by the crackling of the balls of plasma as they racked the Earth, or the roaring of the trees as they were torn from their roots and tossed into the air by the kinetic energy. No, no. After 36 hours in what can be described as almost a comatose state, it instead was the serene sounds of the surrounding forest that finally roused you from your slumber. Gradually, upon waking, you were racked with a sensation unlike any you've felt before.

You were no stranger to the sensation of phantom limbs- you've had your share of bad trips before. This, however, was something different entirely. The moment you were conscious enough to comprehend it, you were paralyzed by the sensation that you body isn't what it used to be. It felt like a twisted malformation of what it once was, with not a single limb familiar to you. You didn't dare open your eyes or move a muscle, to avoid spoiling the sensation, which was actually rather pleasant, if only for it's novelty.

As your senses returned to you, you became more aware of your surroundings. You could hear wind blowing through a field of tall grass, birds chirping in the trees, and you could feel the grass brushing against the limbs you used to be sure were just illusions. None of it was familiar to you- your last memory was of you in bed in an apartment far, far away from any forests. You were hit by a wave of deep concern. Could you be dreaming? It was so vivid!

Hesitantly, you cracked open an eyelid, praying for it all to have been a dream and, for the first time in your life, actually wanting to be back in your shitty apartment in Kansas City. As your eyes adjust to the brightness, the latter of your suspicions were confirmed. You were in a small outcropping of grass in what looked like a dense forest. In the center of the outcropping was a large circular hole- a crater, as if a sizable explosion had wrecked the place.

As you looked down at your body, your soul was gripped with dread at what you might find. What you saw was, perhaps, the last thing you expected. You yourself didn't believe it at first. You looked like some kind of horse-like creature, but not exactly like any horse you'd ever seen. Doing a double-take, you wriggle your limbs a little bit. You recognized, subconsciously, that you arms were gone- they'd been replaced with what seemed like a second pair of legs. The legs were difficult to really bend as much as you were used to, and you didn't seem to have any feet. You could feel two extra limbs on your 'back' as well, but you didn't know what they were supposed to be.

The next few minutes were a blur, both physically and emotionally. You weren't sure what was going on, but you think you were having a panic attack. Once it ended and you lay on your side, even more exhausted then you were before, and your throat sore from screaming. On the positive note, your tantrum left you feeling emotionally numb for a while, so a bit more able to assess your situation.

You attempt to stand up. You immediately fall over, pathetically, having made the mistake of trying to stand with only your hind legs. Next you try to stand on all four legs, like an animal. A bit wobbly, but it works, and feels natural. Once you feel stable, you try flexing the limbs on your back. No effects, other then knocking off balance, but you do hear the ruffling of feathers. Wings, perhaps? Why the hell would you have wings?

Your first objective, you decide, is to find some way to get an actual look at your new body. Perhaps your reflection in a mirror, or a lake. You walk into the forest, beginning your trek. You fall down a bit trying to walk at first, but eventually you get the hang of it.

Eventually you come across some marsh/swamplands. Not exactly a lake, but it'll do.

You look down into the murky water, and see your new self for the first time. Your heart rises at what you see, as if you were almost tempted to laugh at this cruel twist of fate you've been sentenced to. You recognized your form. Even though there were some differences from the version you'd seen on TV, you knew exactly what you were.

You were a pony. An orange, MLP-style pegasus.

That settles it, you must be dreaming. You've had dreams like this before, but they've never been so vivid! You've heard lucid dreams like this can get this vivid, to the point of feeling like out-of-body experiences, but you've never actually tried them. Now that you're experiencing one for the first time, you're excited! Imagine all the things you could do!

You composed yourself. You had no idea how long this dream state would last. You had to make every choice carefully to maximize your enjoyment, or you may miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime.

You looked around the forest. Could this be Equestria? This forest- no, jungle- around you could theoretically be the Everfree Forest, though you see no defining landmarks. This is definitely not the part of Equestria you want to see. You had to find some way out of here, or at least find something interesting.

With no landmarks to travel by, you decided you were left with two options. Either head east along the edge of the swamp, which will at least lead you to the outer edges of the forest, or head west, which seems like it will bring you to the innter reaches of the forest.

It all comes down to a question you've probably already heard a thousand times before- which direction do you want to go?

You have the following choices:

1. East- out of the forest!

2. West- into the forest!
