Setting up this story: Sylvia has finished all of her trials for becoming a full fledged paladin, save for the last. Her final task was to defeat the demon leading attacks on a local village. The attacks were small, but troublesome none the less for the unarmed villagers. The mission was a bit different than most that her fellow paladins partook in, as this time the information was foggy. Not a lot was known about the demon. Regardless, the trial was pass or fail; either become a certified paladin or get stuck back in training doing grunt duty. Sylvia was hopeful for the most part, but had a feeling it wouldn't go as planned or that it'd flop last minute...
Sylvia Embersworn sat cross-legged on her bunk, folding and packing a spare change of clothes for her journey. She sat with her traveling bag between her legs, already stuffed to the brim with gear. The elf pulled the straps tight and buckled them closed, content with what she was bringing. 'Finally done... I can barely stand waiting any longer...' She mused, laying back down on her bed, drumming either side of the bag with her feet. 'Not only for my sake, but there's as well... I can't afford to fail this.' Sylvia reasoned, further encouraging herself in preparation for the morning.
As Sylvia huffed out a sigh and closed her eyes, the bunkmate below her chimed up, "SOoo, final trial eh?" The feminine voice was enough to make Sylvia frown. Of all the people she didn't want to talk to tonight, Brighthelm was certainly on the top of the list. She was practically a prodigy and everyone knew it; especially her. She flew through each of her trials, and the council wants her in a leading roll, preening her for council succession. She was pampered and privileged. The only thing holding her back was her attitude, a superiority complex and a chip on her shoulder, Brighthelm often gave joked on Sylvia's behalf. The prodigy had her moments, oddly standing up for Sylvia given the chance.
"Mhmm... Hopefully the only time I need to do it." Sylvia answered with a hint of annoyance rolling over in bed.
"Heh, its alright, not everyone can pass first time. What's another year of training, huh?" Brighthelm nudged the bottom of Sylvia's bunk, laughing under her breath.
"Yeah... Real encouraging..." Sylvia groaned, burying her face in her pillow. Not another peep out of Brighthelm, she must've gotten the message...
