This y-chromosome targeting virus story is different from other ones. The story goes like this; before the outbreak started, your character was a geneticist working on a device capable of curing genetic disorders. He had a genetic disorder himself and was trying to cure it using a prototype of his device. However, the machine malfunctioned with them inside and kept them in stasis for three months. During that time a virus that targeted the y-chromosome broke out and killed every human with a y-chromosome. It didn't target animals because they had certain genetic material that coded for immunity to the virus.
Getting back to your character, as less than two percent actively codes for human proteins, that leaves about ninety-eight percent of your DNA dormant. The malfunction also activated some of the inactive DNA, resulting in you being not only immune to the virus but it actually does the opposite of what it normally does. In essence, the virus is making your body better which of course means superpowers. Your character only has one superpower though and it can't be anything too extravagant, such as flight, nor can it be physically impossible for humans, such as being able to run faster than light.
The abilities are going to be divided into two categories: physical and mental. Physical abilities will consist of any powers that have to do with the body. Enhancements to one of your attributes, shapeshifting and density manipulation (think like Shadowcat from the X-men) count as physical abilities. Mental abilities consist of powers that are based around your mind. Using your mind to gain information that can't be gained from your normal senses or to manipulate parts of your environment count as mental abilities.
