Eliza had just finished her college degree and found a job. Out of all places, a fast food joint. It had been a month since she had worked there and already tired of it. There were no available slots for her in the places she wanted to work and ended up there. If she didn't find a job, whether it was suited for her or not. She wouldn't hear the endless nagging of her mom. So she took this one despite minimal pay. She lived with her parents and had a kid brother. She had to get to work that day. Her younger brother was still in high school but he too was tired of their mom's constant nagging even though their father had a good job. She and her brother got along pretty well.
"Another day... Hope I don't get annoyed again." Eliza sighed as she thought to herself. She wore baggy brown cargo pants with black sneakers. Her top was a yellow collored golf shirt with white sleeves that extended down past her belt. It had a burger icon on it. She placed her cap in her bag and ran downstairs to get her lunch. Though a nagger of sorts thier mom always prepared for her evem though she's big enough to do it herself. Her brother already in school, she made her way to the bus stop.
She worked at a kiosk of sorts that was in the food distirct of the local mall nearby. Taking the bus was easier. Looking at her watch, she knew she would get thier on time. On her usual route, something new appeared near the bus stop. It was a small stand set up by an old man with a hat. White beard, bald, your usual old man. He had a small table with a red cloth where he displayed his mechendise. Curiousity got the best of her so she checked it out.
"Care to have a look miss? You might have something you like." Said the old man with a smile. She smiled back as she looked at his stuff. Bracelets with gems, watches, trinklets, charms, things you would put on your bag or cellphone. But what caught her eye was an amulet of sorts that seemed to stand out of the rest. It had a large X mark in the middle that was as big as her thumb. It was black with the x mark being white. The center was surrounded by gemstones that were clear on top of its gold sides.
"Oh! Good eye miss. Its the magic amulet." He said looking at it as Eliza held it up and inspected it.
"Magic huh? What does it do? Grant wishes?" Eliza said as she giggled. The old man smiled.
"All I know is that it can transfer something. Dunno what though. So you gonna buy it?" He said.
"Seems like an ordinary amulet to me. I'll give you ten for it!" Eliza said.
"Oh dear. I'm selling that for 20." He said just as her bus arrived.
"I'll give you 15! Take it ir leave because my bus is here!" As she pulled out a five and a ten.
"Sold! Thank you miss!" He said taking the money as Eliza ran for the bus. "Have fun with it!"
Eliza sat in the middle of the bus as she looked back to see the man had disappeared. Scratching her head, she looked at the amulet she had just bought. It glimmered in the sunlight.
"Magical huh? Just what do you transfer?" Eliza wondered as her bus pulled to its stop at the mall. She wore the necklace as she exited and entered the mall to her stand. Putting her white cap on with a burger she began her buisness. Her boss would take her place later.
It had been a long day with her customers being her usual annoyance. Guys who would buy a bottle water or burger and try to hit on her. She played along to their dismay, couldn't get her number. She had some kids buy but nonetheless it was a slow day as usual. It was past 2 p.m. as she yawned and stretched her arms as she sat on her stool, waiting for a customer. Picking up the amulet, she looked at it.
"I don't believe in magic but just what do you transfer?" Eliza thought as she glared at it.
