The two girls blinked, glanced at one another, then back at Mitsuru.
"Koro's...." Yukari began.
"....dog collar?" Minako finished.
"Indeed. We made several backups of his Evoker. The Kirijo Group was concerned that giving an animal might be more prone to losing or damaging his Evoker than a human." Mitsuru said.
"Uhhh...Mitsuru-senpai....aren't those meant to...you know...work on dogs? We're human, last I checked." Yukari said.
"Well, to be fair, you can act like a real b-" Junpei called from down the hallway.
"Finish that sentence and you can join them, Iori." Mitsuru snapped.
"I'll be good." Junpei said in a less enthusiastic voice.
"And yes, Yukari. They are meant for dogs. You'll have to take pains to 'fool' the system." Mitsuru said.
"....And how do we do that?" Minako asked, sincerely dreading where this was leading.
"Simple enough. Crawl on all fours, howl at the moon, and otherwise act the part." Mitsuru said with a smile.
Yukari and Minako blushed at the notion.
"No way!" Yukari finally managed to stammer out.
"I'm willing to give you another chance. Apologize to each other now, and we can forgo this ordeal. This is the last time I'll make that offer." Mitsuru said, crossing her arms.
The girls glanced at each other, then turned their heads away with a mutual "hmph".
"All right. Don't say I didn't try." Mitsuru nodded.
"Ummm...not to spoil this moment, Mitsuru...but will that actually work? Aren't the Evokers supposed to remind of us death in order to call up our Personas?" Akihiko asked.
"Indeed. The Evoker serves as both a mystical bridge between the material and the mental realms and a tool to call forth our own fears and anxieties to break through other mental blockades to reach our true selves. The fear of death is one of our most common and deep seated emotions, and thus a useful catalyst for calling out the Persona. But we have other fears. The Kirijo Group has long speculated that it is possible to summon a Persona by exploiting other common fears."
"Such as?" Akihiko asked.
"Public humiliation." Mitsuru responded. "For example, being made to wear a collar and act like a domesticated pet."
"Harsh." Junpei whispered.
"I did call it an Execution. It would hardly qualify if I held back." Mitsuru stated.
"Huh. Put it that way, it starts sounding kinda tame. I mean, after what we went through over the hot spring...." Junpei trailed off.
"Perhaps it would be. If either were allowed to have anything but the collar on." Mitsuru said evenly.
"WHAT??" Both girls asked.
"Both of you were willing to strip the other for your own purposes. Consider this your just reward. Besides which, the shame of acting like an animal alone might not be enough to summon a Persona. This is a simple insurance policy."
"You can't!" Minako said.
"I can. Now, are you certain neither of you want to make that apology?"
