Chapter #4

Discovered

As Cody walked to the bus, every one of his movements was causing nothing but misery and torment for you. Each footstep caused a catastrophic earthquake, and you felt like the sound that accompanied it would shatter your ears soon. After those agonizing seconds, Cody sat down, relieving you for a little while. Despite not being constantly lifted into the air and slammed into the ground anymore, you were still terrified and didn't know what to do. You tried screaming for help, begging for someone to hear you, but there was no response.

Struggling not to completely break down from fear, you tried to think of what you should do next. Your tiny body was still stuck to your impossibly gigantic friend's toe, but should you try to free yourself? What if doing that leads to you ending up in an even more dangerous situation? You decided to just remain here for now and not use too much of your energy by trying to break free. Still, you were helpless. You'd either be stuck there for a long time until Cody decided to take a shower, which you doubted you'd survive, or you'd fall off and be lost in a world that was far too massive. And there was no way to get Cody's help. You were too small for him to notice. But that's when you heard a buzzing sound and felt a vibration in your pocket. This bizarre, horrifying experience made you forget that you brought your phone. Maybe this was a chance to get help. You just had to free your arms first.

But then, if you called Cody, you doubted he'd believe you if you told him that you somehow shrunk to this size. And since you were so minuscule, he wouldn't be able to detect you if he did look down. But...he did probably have a magnifying glass in his house. If you could get him to use that, he'd be able to see you...hopefully. Unfortunately, if you went with that plan, you'd still have to endure hours of torture before getting help. But, this was your best option, so you ultimately decided to go with it.

As you predicted, you were experiencing almost nothing but pain, fear, and exhaustion for hours as you remained stuck to Cody's foot. You asked yourself a few things. Why was this happening? How was this even possible? It...it was that weird glowing stone, wasn't it? That thing looked like some kind of mystical artifact. You wondered if breaking the stone would grow you back to normal, but you didn't have any tools that could even scratch it. And breaking it might not actually do anything. Or worse, what if the stone really was somehow alive? If it was, would it get angry if you tried to break it and shrink you even more as punishment?

And if it wasn't that rock, then what caused this? Was there any way to reverse this, or would you be stuck like this forever? No, you didn't want to give up yet. Eventually, you actually fell off of Cody's toe due to some of his movements that he barely even noticed, but you still tried to cling to it whenever he started walking, and you nearly fell off of his foot several times.

After what felt like an eternity, Cody went home. Now almost completely drained of energy, your speck-sized body collapsed onto the surface of Cody's flip flop, which he then slipped off shortly after going inside. The kid then ran upstairs to his room to play games or something, leaving you alone for now.

Taking a few minutes to recover, you stood up and took in your surroundings. The vast, light blue plain you were on seemed to stretch endlessly into the distance, although you could see some blurred objects behind it. The fact that this enormous object was really just your friend's shoe was extremely surreal and genuinely unsettling. But, now you had your chance to get help. Reaching into your pocket, you picked up your phone and called him.

"Hi, Cody! Can you hear me?" you said once he answered. "Adam!" Cody exclaimed excitedly, "Where were you today? You missed th-"

Before Cody could finish, you said, "Can you tell me later? I really need your help!"

"Aw, okay," Cody sighed, a bit disappointed that he wasn't able to tell you about what happened today. "What is it?"

"Okay, this is gonna sound random, but do you have a magnifying glass? Don't ask why yet, I'll tell you in a minute," you told him. "Uhhh, I think...." Cody said as he searched his room and one other before finding it. He said, "Okay, I have it. Now what?"

"Good! Now, go downstairs and grab the shoes you wore today. Pick them up gently and take them back to your room," you said. Cody was getting more and more confused by these weird requests, but he did it anyway.

"Really, is this some kind of weird game you made up?" Cody asked.

"Yes! I mean no! Don't ask!" you told him, confusing him even more, but also interesting him. What exactly were you planning?

"Okay, um, I'm in my room," he said. "Alright, now lift the shoe up to your face, but don't move it too close yet," you told him, and he did. As a backup plan in case the magnifying glass plan didn't work, you took a picture of Cody's enormous face staring at the landscape you were on as proof that you shrunk. "Okay, now move it closer, and kind of...uh...scan the magnifying glass over the front part of it. Tell me if you see something moving," you instructed him and started moving around in order to get his attention. After a couple of minutes, he was able to make out a barely visible speck scurrying around and immediately grinned.

"Ohhhh, a bug! How did you even know it was there? It's way smaller than the other ones, and I don't remember you being around to put it there. Why did you even want to show me this? I'm so confused. Eh, whatever! I wanna squish it!" Cody said happily as he lifted his finger over the tiny speck and then started to lower it.

"No, no, no! Cody, stop!" you screamed desperately into the phone, and Cody stopped right as his finger was about to press down. "Huh? What now?" Cody asked, somewhat annoyed that he was interrupted.

"Okay, this is going to sound crazy, but that's not a bug. What actually happened was...well, I don't know how...wait, I think it was this weird magic rock I found that did it. But, I actually shrunk to this size, and I've been trying to get your help," you explained to him.

"......Nah, you're kidding!" Cody laughed, "This really is a silly game you made up, isn't it? How did you come up with it?"

"I thought you'd say that," you told him as you sent a message to his phone. That message contained the picture you took a minute ago. "Check your messages."

When Cody checked them, he saw something unbelievable. There was a picture of....what looked like him, only his face seemed insanely huge, like it was taking up most of the screen. And right in front of it was a blue object. It was the exact same color as the shoe he was wearing. But, how could anyone have taken a picture like that? He never remembered a time when you came into his room and took a picture of him, especially not one that looked like that. Everything looked so massive in it. Did that mean you were telling the truth? He couldn't think of any other way for you to have taken that picture.

After really absorbing all of this information, Cody was finally able to express how he felt about this.

"Oh my....This is so cool!" Cody said, now full of enthusiasm. You covered your ears because how loud he was, and said, "Cody, not so loud, please! But, yeah, it's, um, interesting?"

Now talking more quietly, Cody said, "Hold on a second," He walked over to his desk and tilted his flip flop until you slid off of it and landed on the wooden surface. Cody once again observed your tiny form with the magnifying glass, still utterly astonished. He enjoyed thinking about how you were once taller than him, but were now just this featureless speck that he could just barely see, even with his magnifying glass.

"Wooow, I can't believe how tiny you are," Cody giggled as he bent down and his face dominated your field of vision again, and you couldn't help but be unnerved by it. Even though he now knew about your predicament, the fact that Cody was still over 10,000 feet tall compared to you now was still pretty scary. Especially since Cody's insecurity about being the shortest one in your friend group is what fueled his obsession with "conquering" and tormenting things that were much smaller than him, specifically bugs. And worse, you were significantly smaller than the ants Cody liked to squish so much, which Cody probably loved. But he wouldn't hurt an actual human, especially not one of his closest friends, right?

"How did you get like this? You said something about a...uh...a magic rock thingy? Can I see it?" Cody asked. "I think it's too small for you to see, even with the magnifying glass. If I can grow back to normal without having to break it, I can show you," you explained.

"Hmmm, okay," Cody stated as he stared at the desk, trying to force his eyes to detect your particle-sized form. "Okay, so maybe we can find someone who can figure out how to grow me back later. Right now, I just need a safe place to stay in," you told him.

"Sure!" Cody replied, "And I have some fun ideas for what we can do now."

Then, he thought of something else and asked, "Wait, should I tell the others?"

"Sure, I guess," you told him. Your other friends would probably be helpful in some way....well, at least Brandon would, since he was the most responsible one.

Cody was about to contact them, when he started considering just keeping this a secret from him. He could have fun with you all by himself for a little while, and no one could really stop him. Still, was that really the right choice? It didn't feel right at first, but he was conflicted. After a minute, he made his decision.
