This choice: You both walk away, uncertain. • Go Back... It was obvious that neither James or you were willing to open a conversation. You nor he had a single clue where to start or how the other would react to the news of his or your powers. You suspected that at least one person inside the house had power similar to your own, the 'chaotic science' book you had discovered was proof of that. However, you were at a loss as to who it might have been and you were not about to guess.
"This is so infuriating!" you thought. "I can't just suddenly yell out, hey, guys, I'm a witch are any of you a mad scientist?" you looked at James and let out a low sigh, which he noticed, then thought, "I have to get away, for now, and call Aunt Viva. She got me started on this, she has to know something."
James had seen some of your power and had his suspicions as to who had given you a magic book. However, he did not have enough evidence to prove anything. Also, he was at a loss as to how you could have read the book of chaotic science at all as only boys were supposed to be able to read it. Aside from that, he knew you had the potential for magic as your mom was a witch. However, he never dreamed it would become so strong so quickly and he was not about to guess how.
"Well this is a dilemma for the record books!" Frustrated, he thought. "I can't just tell her that I'm a mad scientist and demand, or even ask, where the hell she got so much magical power in one year as even boys can't gain chaotic power that fast!" he let out a low sigh of his own, which you noticed, then thought, "I have to get away from her, for now, and talk to dad... maybe he can enlighten me."
"Um... I have to my homework now." you said. "I've been studying college level courses to get ahead after graduation." you paused, seeing James' surprised look and wondered if it was a mistake to say that. "Can you recommend any good reads?"
"Um... yeah." replied James." he handed you a thick book from his bag. "It covers all of the required courses to enter the top colleges in the nation."
You nodded, taking the book and sadly walked away from him, towards the stairs. As James watched you leave, he remembered finding it strange when dad mentioned that you were hitting the books hard shortly after he had left for his training. It caused him to think that the answer to the mystery lied somewhere in your bedroom. He did not dare go in there just yet as he did not want a fight between him and you over privacy issues. He decided it more wise to talk to dad first and see what other strange things you had been doing while he was away.
"I have to know who is training her or if she is learning alone." Concerned, he thought. "I'd better watch her carefully for a while."
With that, he sadly walked towards the stairs, picking up his luggage, and went up, into his room. It was just as he had left it with the exception of welcome home cards from you, Tex, Matt and dad. He grinned at them and read the one from you first. Sadly, there were no clues inside. Frustrated and worried, he left the room and walked towards dad's study. On the way there, he met up with Tex and Matt. He stopped, giving them each a warm hug, then asked them if they had any clues to your odd behavior.
"Negative, James." Frowning, Tex replied. "The unknown factor of Jessica remains elusive to me." He frowned, looking frustrated. "I had repeatedly searched the attic meticulously but found nothing of note that may be regarded as suspicious."
"I searched through Jessica's room a few times." added Matt. "She yelled at me for it." he began to tear up. "I didn't find anything, James... She is hiding something though, I'm worried about her."
"So am I." admitted James. then he thought, "More than you might realize."
James politely excused himself then knocked on dad's. "Father, it is I, James!" she said.
"Come in, my boy." came dad's authoritative voice.
James walked in and immediately noticed that dad was worried about you as well.
