Chapter #5

A visit from your aunt Viva.

"What do you mean my future?" Worried, you asked.

"There is no one in this household qualified to teach you magic." Bluntly, James replied. "Whoever gave you that book to study alone took a monumental risk as you could have seriously injured yourself."

"I'm sure you injured yourself learning your mad science." Flatly, you countered.

"That is true." Calmly, James retorted. "However, I had a qualified instructor and a medical team on standby in case of accidents. Do you have any such safeguards in place?"

"We are concerned for your well being, honey." Chiming in, dad said. "You need training but you also need a firm foundation to go with that training."

"What are you saying?" Becoming nervous, you asked.

Dad opened his mouth to speak but paused, turning to the front door. James, as if sensing something, turned towards the same direction. Both let out a low moan. "Viva." Annoyed, dad muttered.

"What brings aunt Viva here at this time?" Frustrated, James asked. "She has such inconvenient timing as of late."

"You can see though walls?" Surprised, you asked. Your face hardened. "You and your brothers better not do than near my room."

Dad smiled slightly. "They won't unless they want to wear matching outfits."

You giggled at that, breaking the ice, then turned as the doorbell rang. Apparently, Aunt Viva had come for a visit. "Are we going to let her in?"

"I'll get it." From the hall, Tex called.

He opened the door and sighed upon seeing aunt Viva who lovingly pinched his cheek before stepping inside with a number of boxes in her arms. "Happy early birthday, Jessica." Sweetly, she gushed.

"It will be Tex's birthday too, aunt Viva." Politely, you pointed out.

"That is true, my dear." Smiling, Viva said. "Only I ran out of room in my arms." She giggled then turned to Tex. "You gifts are in the car, care to go fetch them?"

Tex, seeing the number of boxes Viva had brought you, ran out the door with anticipation in his eyes. Viva giggled then turned to you as you spoke. "Um... you didn't have to go through all this trouble for my bother and I."

"It's no trouble at all." Beaming, Viva said. "I see I came just in time."

"We are in the middle of an important discussion with my daughter, Viva." Frowning, dad said. "She has discovered her talent and has been practicing unsupervised."

"She has not been practicing unsupervised." With a cheeky grin, Viva said. "I had been helping her over the phone and Skype for the passed several months."

Dad's face turned red with impatience. "It was you who gave Jessica that magic book!" Angry, he accused. "It is my place to decide when she receives it, not yours!"

"What is done is done." Maintaining her smile, Viva countered. "What would you do? Erase her memory, transform her into a boy and teach her your mad science?"

You winced at both options as dad sighed, controlling his growing rage. "Learning how mad science works will be beneficial to her training in witchcraft." Through gritted teeth, he argued. "You had no place to interfere with my family."

"I have given your daughter the solid foundation she needs for higher training in witchcraft." Boldly, Viva said. "As such, it is my duty to continue that training unless you intend to ship her off to a school of witchcraft where her training will keep her away for a year."

You had never seen your father more furious; it frightened you. "Daddy...."

Dad sighed then turned to you. It was impossible to tell what he was thinking.

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Dad insists he train you.

*Noteb*
2. Dad allows Viva to train you.

3. Dad and Viva- magic/science duel.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
