That night, after David, Fortuna and Pearl were asleep, you decide that shock collar or no shock collar, you were not staying under the roof of Destiny's relatives another second, so you hatched a plan to get out of the house. You notice that Pearl left her backpack right outside her bedroom door and slide down the table you were sleeping on before you walk towards the backpack chuckling to yourself. "Stupid gargoyles," you say to yourself. "Destiny's sister has got to be as empty headed as that big blue bitch herself. Now, here we go."
You unzip the front zipper to Pearl's backpack and then you slide right in. You laugh to yourself. "This is perfect. I'll follow the brat to school, hitch a ride on some unsuspecting sap and soon enough I'll be out of this town. I doubt that shock collar works beyond this hillbilly hellhole. Wade, you finally outsmarted that damn Demona." You were confident this plan would succeed.
The next day, Pearl is just putting on her backpack and is getting ready for school when Fortuna comes in. "Pearl," says Fortuna to her daughter. "Have you seen Wade today? I'm supposed to take him to meet Sheriff Reaver today." "No Mom," says Pearl. "I haven't seen Wade. And I don't want to see that insulting twerp." Fortuna lets out a sigh. "I know he was extremely rude yesterday, but your aunt is trusting him to help Maggie catch Specter." Pearl lets out a laugh at that thought. "Come on Mom," she says. "Aunt Destiny doesn't trust anyone." "She trusts me to zap him. Well, first things first. You better head to school. You're not forgetting anything are you." "No Mom, I'm perfectly fine. Checked everything before I went to bed last night."
You let out a sigh of relief. If Pearl double checked her backpack, you'd be toast. Fortuna bends down to kiss Pearl and smiles. "Have a good day at school sweetie." "I hope so." Says Pearl. With that Pearl has stepped out of the house and is flying off to high school, completely unaware of her passenger. You laugh to yourself and rub your hands. As soon as Pearl lands, you unzip the zipper slightly and see that she's at a school called Nightmare High. You look out and see all sorts of giant monster teenagers. Aside from the fact that the students are monsters, it seems to be an average high school setting, albeit with sasquatch jocks, gorgon cheerleaders and a nerdy sphinx or two. However, all the monsters are taller than Pearl. You even see a leprechaun girl who was slightly bigger than the gargoyle shrimp. You let out a chuckle. "How embarrassing," you think to yourself. "She really is a runt.
Pearl walks up and sees one of her friends waving at her. You look in surprise because this monster girl looked like a living rag doll. She had yellow eyes and long blue hair and a zipper for a mouth. She was wearing a patchwork dress and mittens and didn't appear to have fingers. "Hey Emerald," says Pearl as she shakes hands with her friend. "How're you doing?" The rag doll giantess smiles and nods her head as Pearl smiles at her. But then Pearl lets out a sigh. "Well, you're lucky. I've got company and he is the worst. You remember my Aunt Destiny? The prison warden?" Emerald nods her head. "Well, she sent one of her crooks over to stay with us. He's supposed to help your aunt catch Specter." Aunt? This rag doll was the sheriff's niece? But Fortunate said the sheriff was a Nemean lion. What was going on?
Emerald just raised an eye. "I know Under Gloom is a woman's prison. They made an exception for him since he was human. Just like your uncle." "Uncle?!" you think to yourself. From the context, the sheriff was married to a human. "Who'd be stupid enough to marry a monster?" you think to yourself. "Especially a big mangy man-eating cat? That's when you zip yourself back into the backpack and you feel Pearl moving as the gargoyle girl gets to class. But which class?
