As you get ready for bed and begin to turn off all of the lights in the apartment, you think over the past year. You think of all the anguish that you have gone through recently. When you received the call from the police about the car accident, your world just ended. Valerie was the love of your life, and when you two married you believed that you would be together forever. And then, suddenly, in a blink of an eye she was taken away from you.
Thank goodness for the support of friends and family to get you through this. Without their help you don't know what you would have done. They managed to get you out of your funk and convince you to move on with your life. That's what gave you the idea to move to another city. This way you and Susan could make a fresh start.
Susan...You sigh to yourself. It was terrible losing your wife, but you can only imagine what your daughter must be going through. Losing your mother at such a young tender age, it was truly heartbreaking. Not having that bond that all young girls have with their mother...it is truly a shame.
The only thing you can do for her is to let her know that you will always be there for her and that you will never go away. You hope that Susan can try to move forward like you are trying to. The move was a bit hard for her but she will be starting a new school in the fall and hopefully soon this will feel like home.
Susan is truly your world at this point. You would do anything for her.
You turn off the last light in the apartment, but not before reading the framed wedding announcement you kept of you and Valerie's wedding. "We invite you to the wedding of David and Valerie Leeves". You hold back a tear.
As you begin walking to your bedroom you walk past Susan's room. Expecting to her her snoring you hear something else.
