Hikaru Gosunkugi was one of Ranma’s many rivals, even if pretty much no one considered him as such. In fact, the only characteristic he shared with other rivals was his general dislike of Ranma. He was also infatuated with Akane Tendo – something so common in Nerima, that you have to wonder if it wasn’t an epidemic.
But contrary to all others he wasn’t a Martial Artist… in fact he was may be as far from being one as it was physically possible without being a cripple. Instead he was making du with some kind of ritualistic magic and strange artefacts that seemed to easily fall into his hands. They hilariously failed or backfired more often than not, and even in rare case where it worked as intended Hikaru seemed too surprised by that to press any kind of advantage. So, all in all Hikaru Gosunkugi, while certainly a weirdo, could be considered a relatively harmless weirdo if only…
Yes, of course there was an “if”. As the vast majority of Nerima’s resident Hikaru was literally uncapable to think before he acts. This little fact was one of the main reasons why there were so much chaos, destruction and general maihem around. But thoughtless action of some overpowered Martial Artist would mostly cause just one more fight with some collateral damage… On the other hand, a wannabe wizard using something he know nothing about just to reach his one single-minded goal… That can cause so much more troubles…
And that was exactly what happened, Hikaru Gosunkugi got his hands what he believed will finally offer him a chance with his beloved Akane and acted without thinking. He didn’t try to test if it would work as advised… damn, he didn’t even read the manual! Or the contract that he did sign to obtain it… And so…
