You looked at the bear dubiously, "What's that supposed to mean?" You inquired.
The bear set a file on the table that he seemingly pulled from out of thin air. He didn't open the file, but instead he simply rested a hand on it, "My race; the anthros did not come to exist out of chance nor are we a product of evolution. We were created by humans."
You stared at the bear in disbelief, "Humans created you? Why? How?"
"As I said, we were not a product of evolution. But we were not always anthromorphic creatures. We were once an animalistic race. Some of our subspecies were avian, others were bipedal primates and many were quadruped mammals. We were driven by only instinct for the most part and it is believed that we were not sentient beings capable of the thought we are today. Humans were at the top of the food chain and lived in cities much like the this one."
You look down at your chained wrists in thought, "What your describing... sounds a lot like where I'm from."
The bear grunted in thought, "Does it now? If you're telling the truth and that really is the case then that would mean that the events that led to the world you see today haven't occurred in 'your world'."
"What events?" You asked.
"The creation of anthros to start. Through experimentation on our predecessors, humans of the generations of old created anthros. It was a process that took several years. Some were injected with chemicals and drugs that caused immense pain, others were forced to undergo genetic manipulation. Most of our predecessors did not survive the tests... the ones that did though, they became what you see before you today. Eventually a substantial amount of subspecies had been amassed and created through genetic manipulation. Humans; curious of their potential, began to teach them how to read, write and speak. This though, was ultimately what led to the downfall of civilization as humanity knew it. The anthros that they had been testing, experimenting on, killing... and teaching had learned to strategize amongst themselves. Eventually they escaped and disappeared into their natural habitats according to their subspecies, the jungle, the wetland and of course the seas and deserts."
"Of course," You replied as you tried to wrap your head around what your hearing.
"After a few years of hunting and tracking down the anthros, the humans found them. But what they found wasn't what they expected to find. What they expected to find was a small group of anthros scared and confused. They'd expected some resistance, but they expected to handle it easily. But they found several subspecies of anthros, they worked in tandem to fight the humans in what is known to most as guerilla warfare. The humans quickly learned that the anthros had multiplied and while we have a limited aptitude when compared to humans, our aptitude for learning and adapting was higher than the humans anticipated. Given our... natural advantages, our predecessors were easily able to overrun a large portion of human cities and eventually most of the humans were imprisoned."
"And the rest?" You pressed.
"Any involved or suspected to be involved in the experimentation and torture of animals and anthros alike were killed. Others were put under slavery and the rest fled, some became freedom fighters and others simply became ghosts and disappeared," The bear replied.
"So everyone wants to kill me because of what the humans native to this world did to their ancestors?" You ask in irritation and disbelief.
"That's about right," The bear replied. He then opened the file, "And these are the pictures of the anthros that didn't survive the experiments.
You gasped in shock, several of them were mutilated while others looked like they'd starved to death wasting away into nothing more than skin and bones. Others looked as though they'd been beaten to death and there were those who were simply dead without any extraordinary evidence. "This is... wrong..." You breathed.
"It's barbaric is what it is," A feminine voice interjected. You snapped your head up to find the wolf standing in the doorway. Her arms were crossed and her expression was neutral. Her golden eyes pierced through you as they observed your every move, "Detective, give us a few moments alone if you'd please."
The bear nodded and started to gather up the file on the table, "Leave those right where they are," The wolf ordered. The bear nodded and obeyed before leaving. The wolf closed the door behind him before taking a seat and staring you down. Her lips then parted before asking
