Jack grimaced as he felt a wave of nausea flood through him. He reached down to rub the side of his stomach, hoping that would help to soothe the sickness away. Was it something that he ate? He hadn't been carsick since he was a little boy, and it seemed strange that it would start again out of no-where. His headache throbbed behind his temples, and Jack sank back against the car seat. He felt tired all of a sudden, as if his recent run of late-night gaming sessions had finally caught up to him, and he tilted his head to rest his forehead against the blissfully cool car window.
"Jack?" Jack's mother caught his eye in the rear view mirror, concern entering her expression, "Are you alright? You've gone ever so quiet." She turned in her seat to take a closer look at her son, her eyes looking him up and down in motherly concern. "Sweetie? You've gone pale."
"Feels like I'm gonna throw up," Jack tilted his head further against the cold glass, "Guess I ate something dodgy. Or something like that."
"Bet it was that hot dog you snarfed down from the guy outside of the flea market," Jack Sr declared with a self approving nod, "You can't trust guys like that. Most of them don't even have a license to be there, you know. You don't even know what meat went into that 'dog, kiddo. Could be anything. Cat. Raccoon. Actual dog."
"I don't think you're helping, dear," Jack's mother responded exasperatedly, "Do you want us to drop you off at home, sweetie? You could go upstairs and get some rest." She looked as if she were going to say something else, but instead decided not to. Jack was grateful for it, and nodded as he rubbed a hand over his churning stomach once again. The thought of having something to eat both disgusted him and appealed to him at the same time.
On one hand, he was feeling sick. The idea of heading home and going to bed was an appealing one, he could put Netflix on and just allow himself to doze in and out of sleep between episodes. He could maybe see about delving into his stash of snacks if he was feeling better later on.
On the other? He loved the diner they were heading towards. And he had a sudden craving for his all time favourite triple cheeseburger with strips of bacon inserted between each patty. Jack's mouth almost watered at the thought, he could even have curly fries with that. Thick, curled fries with a dusting of spice to give them a little bit of a kick.
