Chapter #3The probes are on their way. So far so good. by: Inscrutable   A headache starts spinning. You can’t believe it’s finally happening, yet you’re also a little worried. You notice you can’t move any muscle anymore and you smell and taste metal. You can’t even move your eyes. Your body sits in a rest position against a pod staring at the wall. You can see it and think it’s weird you can’t move. You can’t say anything either and just moments later you stop hearing anything. Your taste and smell disappears as well as your physical feelings.
Suddenly you panic, as all you can do is think. You check everything again in your head, every step you take. You’re afraid something might go wrong and kill you for real, but the chance seems so unlikely.
You made sure your mind cannot accidentally alter the trajectory of your Nanoprobes. The backup system, constantly uploads the path and makes sure it’s the same as in their memory banks. Even if it would be disabled, the probes cannot be stopped from their programming now. But just in case, you locked every panel on every machine with a secure password during the program’s execution. Only after you have your new body, they would unlock. You placed fake plugs in the wall, in case children rip them out, the real power cable goes straight in the ground below the equipment. Everything in there is made sturdy, so breaking stuff will take a long while. Though, you guess if someone shoots a gun in here things can go wrong, but that still wouldn’t stop you from becoming someone else. Even if someone would shoot you in the head now, the probes can still extract the data and save you. The probes have their own method of gaining power, they basically convert kinetic energy to power.
You laugh a little evil in your head. You think maybe you’re a little over reacting with the measures you took, but it is necessary. The only way you could be stopped, is when someone comes with a bomb and kills everyone or when someone creates a massive EMP, destroying the Nanoprobes. The chances are so low, it’s unlikely to happen. Especially with all these people around. You laugh a little evil again, convincing yourself you have nothing to worry about.
You were calm for a few seconds you think and then fall asleep. Everything darkens, then suddenly at some point, the nanite eyes of your probes convert an image to your mind, creating a virtual image of what is really happening in the lab. Basically you can see everything that is happening now, with maybe a millisecond delay. You can also see the position of the probes, by red dots within this 3D map. It looks like a large red mist that comes out of your body’s mouth and flies toward the target. You always thought it went a lot slower, but your Nanoprobes are quite fast actually. It takes maybe two minutes to reach the target and probably some more for them to enter the body. You feel relieved.
You take a close look at your target body and notice a small bar, like a health bar in a game displayed.. You immediately understand that is the meter indicating how long it takes before you lose sight of this virtual image, like you programmed. After wards the upload will start and that body will most likely faint for a moment. You can’t wait.
