John revealed the box with a flourish, to a whispering rush of excited hushed cheers. As he put the board on the low coffee table in the middle of the room. His friends rummaged through the box. Sam found the various pieces, small die-cast figures of the film cast: Harry; Hermione; Ron; Neville; Luna; Fleur and Ginny. Jill riffled through the cards, finding the different weapons. Jinxed and cursed items mostly. While Gemma found another pack of cards, defensive spells. Dave found the room cards and gave them a shuffle. Alex found some cards marked enemies, with Snape, Argus Filch, Draco, Dolores Umbridge, also needing space on the board.
Thankfully the caste board of the game was larger with more space for them to move around. John read the rules, and the friends each blindly picked their pieces.
John » Hermione Granger.
Sam » Ron Weasley
Jill » Neville Longbottom
Gemma » Fleur Delacour
Alex » Luna Lovegood.
As they sat their pieces at the start positions, it was clear there were other 'encounter' cards too. The damned game looked as much like a mash-up involving Monopoly as well as Cluedo, and a couple of others for confusion sake.
"We'll work out all the rules as we go..." John suggested as he picked up the dice. "Highest roll goes first."
There was a sour look from Gemma, a firm believer in rules, but without any support she rolled after John.
