"I'd rather swap with someone." sadly, I said. "I have tried everything and it all failed." I felt myself starting to cry then turned to my hosts. "It's not easy being stuck looking and sounding like a little child all the time."
Mom sighed. "Then you will swap lives with me." firmly, she said. "I can not ask anyone out side the family to volunteer."
"No, mom!" gripping her arm, Sarah protested. "Mark doesn't know how to be a woman, let alone being a mother!"
"Sarah, you know my reasons behind this decision." sternly, mom countered. "If I refuse him this when he knows its available, he may just volunteer himself and swap with some stranger we never met."
"I doubt Dr Thompson would do that." wincing, Elizabeth said.
"I can't allow anything to fall to chance." shaking her head, mom said. "Please give me Dr Thompson's card so I may call to make an appointment for the procedure."
With a sigh, Elizabeth produced a card from her purse and handed it to mom who then turned to me. "Are you certain, without any doubt, you wish to go through with this?" serious, she asked. "Once done, there is not changing back."
I gulped, not certain about swapping lives with my mom, then turned to the others. They seemed to carry mixed emotions but they did not give any indication that they approved or disapproved, it was my decision alone. Finally, I knotted my jaws and nodded. "Without a doubt, I am sure I want to do this, mom." my voice quivering, I said. "But what about you? I mean you will be stuck as me."
Mom smiled slightly. "That's true." looking at me, she said. "Only I'll be a kid again, enjoying summer vacation."
