Your name is Jessica, and you haven't talked to someone your age for a year.
What changed a year ago, exactly? Well, you and your mother had to move from the east coast to the ass-end of nowhere for 'work'. There were no schools within a 7-hour drive, so you had to be homeschooled. The tiny little neighborhood up in the mountains, while beautiful, was boring and lonely, mostly because most of your neighbors were elderly. The only social interaction you get is when some of your neighbors have their grandkids over for the summer, who are usually less then half your age.
Speak of the devil, your mother is forcing you to babysit one of the little demons for the whole day while your mother and his parents go out to do whatever it is there is to do in this empty town. His name is... Jared? Jeremiah? You don't remember. He was currently in the process of sitting at his table, absolutely refusing to eat the lunch you made him because it "wasnt the way he liked it". Well, whatever. He can starve for all you care.
You sigh, staring blankly at your computer screen as text flickers by. You had managed to keep in touch with some of your friends from your old town through various chatrooms, and thus your computer was the only thing keeping you from going insane from boredom and loneliness.
You hear Jeremiah complaining loudly again from the dining room, followed by the sound of a plate being smashed. You groan. You couldn't put up with this brat for the entire day.
