Lewis sat in the far back of the caravan which was just one large, big armored vehicle that consisted of two "boxes", had railings on top, ladders on the sides, windows and openings in the sides, that can be opened and closed, used for certain needs...well the art of jerry-rigging at one of it's fine points. The vehicle wasn't powered by horses or gas, it was by a crank system that led to a string of gears that moved the wheels while someone at the front steered. So it was basically 1 person driving, 2 people using the cranks (With shifts of course), 6 on top to watch for bandits or trouble and the rest inside staying guard inside or relaxing for whatever reason.
So as said Lewis was in the far back atop of the 2nd box. With him is Obi (Short for Obrieski), pretty much the only person that can have a decent conversation with him, Obi was a fellow that wore a gasmask and grey poncho (That is reinforced) and under that was a flak jacket that had grenades on it. The reason for that is because he is the only person onboard that is not-immune and he is the one who designed the armored vehicle and gunblades so his knowledge of jerry-rigging is essential which the grenades are self explanatory for zombies and the reason he isn't an anthro is because of his principles that he enforces greatly. He has no worry about being shot and blown up prematurely.
"So Obi" Lewis stated "That last town we were in..."
"Yeah, that scavenging job was a bust"
"Glad that nobody got hurt and I'm also glad you they didn't get close to you"
"In terms of my importance or in terms of friendship"
"Honestly, you're the only person I could talk to, I would rather take friendship than your role" Lewis and Obi were friends since they were children, the town they lived in was breached by a large group of bandits and so it was promptly burned to the ground. Over a long stretch of time from their teenage years to what they are now, they have met up with other nomads and traversed the wasteland.
