Peter slowly walked along the river. He was headed for the Lockland Woods, which were behind the castle in the eastern corner of Argol. He admired the quiet, peaceful water, and the lush green trees. He suddenly heard a branch snap.
He spun around. “Who goes there?” He called. He began to cautiously creep forward. It was probably just a rabbit. But in this world you always had to be careful. He went forward. Suddenly, two large hands grabbed his shoulders from behind.
“Agghhgh! Help!” He screamed. As he struggled against the powerful iron hands, he thought he heard laughing. He definitely did. And he knew that laugh.
“It’s not funny Sophie! You scared me.” He said. The hands released him and he turned to face his attacker. She was wearing her usual battle armor, and her long blonde hair flowed back.
“Hey Peter! You know, it isn’t safe out here. You shouldn’t be alone or someone could surprise you!” She said with a giggle. Mark ignored her grin a and turned away.
Oh come on! Don’t be a poor sport!” Sophie called, jogging to catch up with him. Peter was still a little upset. He didn’t like that she had done that. Although, in all the years that they had known each other, Sophie always tried to show that she was above Peter.
They continued to walk in silence. Suddenly, they came out of the trees. It was dark and rocky, and when the river met the jagged edges, it crashed, sending waves ten feet high. In front of them, was a dark cave.
“What is this place? I’ve been in these woods hundreds of times but I’ve never seen this before. It almost looks like....” he didn’t finish. Sophie continued to move forward, telling Peter to wait for her to signal. She vanished into the cave.
“Sophie? Sophie? Sophie!!” Peter cried. After a moment, an echo cane out of the cave. “Get in here Peter!”
Peter ran in, using a hand on the wall to guide him. He eventually came to an enormous cavern. The ceilings were so high they could almost not be seen. Lava and black rocks made up the floor wall. Gold items, from coins to plates to bars, lay in please around the room. The floor could not be seen because there were so many items.
Sophie was standing across the hall. She had her back turned. Peter went to her. Suddenly, when he reached her, he saw what she did. It was a golden box, about the size of a briefcase, but taller. There were dark jewels around the edges.
“What is it?” Asked Peter.
“I think it might be....The Crown. And if it is....Peter, listen to me.” She said, turning to face him. “This is serious. We have to take this right now.” She picked up the case fade-in it’s resting place. The single light that’s came from the outside world had illuminated its platform.
What should they do?
