Chapter #4

Noticed By Your Goddess

    by: infinity421 Author IconMail Icon
Knelt inside the small shrine you had dedicated to your goddess, you can't help but feel at peace. Here, it was just you and Her. No one else to disturb your worship or deny Her existence. No one to try convince you to worship their pantheon and lead you away from Her.

Your shrine was a small one, but you like to think it makes up for that by using its space well. The entire thing was inside a small cave opening, which you had hidden with a mass of different types of foliage to prevent those who would stop your worship from finding your shrine. A small pool sunken into the floor takes up a fair amount of space - in fact, you are kneeling in the pool at this very moment. A small piece of log, about as long as your forearm and slightly thicker than your leg, is placed at the end of the pool opposite the entrance. Upon the log are mounted several of your most prized possessions - all depictions of Her. Of Her beyond-beautiful cetacean features.

A small statuette crudely carved out of wood; a lovingly detailed drawing that you had spent many hours on; a small dolphin plush toy, painstakingly dyed and re-dyed many times over so as to perfectly emulate her colours.

In a state of religious awe, you clutch the plush dolphin with shaking hands, engulfing it in a crushing hug. You had known about Her for almost as long as you could remember - since early childhood, no doubt. Recurring visions of Her, of your goddess, had been brushed off by your peers as either superstitious nonsense or possible heresy, depending on who you talked to. But you knew that She was real. You had seen Her in perfect detail many times over, Her wondrous form suspended in a sea of tiny globes of blazing light.

But She had never noticed you. No matter how hard you prayed, no matter what you tried to earn Her attention for even the briefest of moments, She remained blind to your worship.

Seizing the carving in one hand while keeping the plushy held in the other, you rest your forehead against it as you attempt to regain control of your breathing, which is coming in short, ragged bursts. And yet, something feels different, somehow. As if something was gently touching the edges of your mind.

"Hello, little one."

You stare ahead, mouth wide open. She- She had noticed you...

"I must apologize for not noticing you until now, little one. It is so hard to hear prayers at my size. even those as fervent as yours. Please, little one, exit your shrine. I will pick you up once you are outside."

A smile of pure, dumb bliss on your face, you stumble out of the shrine, heart pumping wildly. Everything seems to go quiet for a second - before a noise like the universe itself roaring fills your ears, and a translucent blue hand plunges downwards from the clouds in the distance, as your vision begins to blacken.

"Here we go, little one! Make sure to hold on tight - if you can!"

--

Groaning, you clutch your pounding head as you awaken. Your entire being feels scrambled, your thoughts fuzzy and not-quite-there. The sharp, stabbing pains of a migraine assault your head relentlessly. The migraine and strange sensations seem to fade all of a sudden, however, and you realize that you are laying on the ground.

The ground in question is warm. Delightfully so, in fact. And it feels... Rubbery?

Opening your eyes at last, you roll onto your back and sit up. The stormy-grey ground seems to stretch endlessly before you, an infinite plane of rubbery grey skin making up the ground. Above you is what initially seems to be the night sky - but on closer inspection, the pinpricks of stars turn out to be infinitesimally small globes of light.

An elated smile appears on your face. You're here, with Her; your goddess; your deity. Looking behind you, you gawp as you behold a gigantic iris, many trillions of miles in diameter - if not even larger. You can only see it in its entirety due to its sheer, mind-boggling distance from you. You've been held on one of Her fingertips this entire time.

Your dolphin goddess lets loose a giggle that could destroy the Milky Way through sheer force.
"Well then, my little worshipper, it's a pleasure to meet you face to face. You can call me the Goddess Cora."
