"No." Josh took his decision "I'm not like that. I'm not gonna use this power against Kate...what kind of poor friend am I to even think about it? I can't believe myself..."
Sure, without the dictaphone, he knew Kate would never feel for him like he felt for her. But Josh was a nice guy. Probably too much in the first place. But as he thought about it, he smiled as he found an answer to his problem. Changing Kate to make her feel like he felt was wrong.
But what about changing himself so he felt just like she did? After the things he thought, Kate definitely deserved a much better friend than he was. He felt guilty, and wanted to redeem himself. And there were only bonuses to changing himself so Kate and him were really best friends without untold feelings: she'd be happy, he'd be happy, and he'd be able to move on.
And so, acting a bit like a "white knight", Josh pushed the record button.
"I'm a much, much better friend for Kate. Actually, I'm the friend she always wanted, the one person she can share absolutely everything with, the one she can trust like no one else, as my love for her is absolute friendship, and these feelings will never be damaged or fade."
Josh pressed stop and smiled calmly.
As within seconds, he'd be, at last, the best friend Kate needed, not the friend-zoned boy she thought was her best friend.
