Simon picked himself off the floor and used the wall to steady himself. He had been tossed across the room by one of Ms. Grimm's sneezes. She had called him over after dismissing the class to their next subject, and as he drew closer to her the end of her nose twitched and a powerful sneeze took him off his feet, and carried him across the room and into the top of the far wall. He slid down it and landed with a thud. "Sorry Simon," she apologized as she wiped her nose.
"It's okay," Simon assured her. "Now you wanted to see me?"
"Why were you late to class?" She asked Simon, her nose bobbing up and down ever so slightly.
Simon couldn't help but follow her nose's movements with his eyes, but he didn't hesitate to answer her. "I got lost trying to find the classroom."
She knew he was lying to her, but she couldn't prove it, until she noticed the nick on his finger, and the clay on the edges of his sleeve, and under his fingernails. It dawned on her where he must have been, and she grew pale. "You found the clay wall," she said covering her mouth with her hands in surprise. "Did you open it?"
"What? What are you talking about?"
"Simon! I did not get this nose by accident! I know about the door, and I know what it leads to! Now, did you open it?"
Simon averted his gaze, and looked to his shoes. "Yeah I opened it."
"Okay, this doesn't have to be a bad thing. Can you take me to it?"
"Not really, it's Desdemona's secret spot."
"Okay, can work around this," Ms. Grimm said looking around. "We'll just get Des, and go checkout the door. Now." And with that Ms. Grim pulled Simon thought the halls and to Desdemona's Math class. A quick explanation, and a nod of agreement and the trio were in the gym moving through the hidden door way.
"How long until we get to the other doorway?" Ms. Grimm asked impatiently.
"Just a few more yards," Simon informed her, and soon they were there. Ms. Grimm started to study the doorway, looking it over and running a finger around the carvings. Simon noticed she was missing one crucial carving, and cleared his throat for her attention. When she looked he pointed to the carving of the big nosed woman.
"Is that me?" she asked a little shocked to see a representation of herself on an ancient wall.
"I would think so," Simon smiled tapping the end of her long schnoz.
Ms. Grimm rubbed the end of her nose and gave simon a cross look. "Don't do that again," Ms. Grimm told Simon, making Desdemona laugh.
"So you know why you're on that door?" Desdemona asked her favorite teacher.
"No, but we're going to find out."
"You mean, you're going to find out," Desdemona corrected her.
"No we're going to find out!" Simon told her happily before bounding through the doorway.
"You certainly got yourself a spirited boyfriend," Ms. Grimm playfully teased her student.
"He's not my boyfriend," Desdemona blushed following her teacher who followed her male student. And unseen to the trio a shadow moved through the doorway after them.
