Mike fuses himself with his guitar

Looking at his guitar sitting on its stand in the corner, Mike decided to try fusing himself with it. He thought it would be an interesting way to test the remote out. Selecting himself as the first target, and the guitar as the second, Mike fired off the device. There was a bright flash of light that temporarily blinded Mike, but when he regained his vision he saw that his guitar was gone. Mike felt a bit weird and his surroundings seemed a bit different, so he realized that it had worked. The question was, what had happened?
