Her eight-year-old friend Jack suddenly turned green, his tummy gurgling. Uh-oh, Katie's mom knew that look! Grabbing his hand she hustled him away from the table and into the bathroom, just in time for him to urp into the trash can. Placing a palm on his belly to hold him upright, she could feel at least two babies wriggling and squirming in his stomach. Gently she rubbed his swollen little belly, trying to soothe the queasiness.
"It's okay, buddy, this happens. I bet you this is because of Katie's birthday wish! C'mon, let's get you some vanilla ice cream to settle your tummy."
Jack sniffled, but nodded and allowed her to lead him back to the party. Katie's mom set a small trashcan by his chair and got him a dish of vanilla, which he ate slowly, occasionally rubbing his belly as the babies inside flipped and rolled. After the party as Jack waited for his mom to pick him up, Katie went up to him and kissed the little bulge peeking out from under his shirt.
