Chapter #6

Knowledge is power

    by: Unknown
Still amazed by what just happened, you reach for the second pen in the set. This one is brown, and you wonder what your grandfather must have planned with it. For all you know, maybe you're about to sprout wings and fly with it. Taking the pen in your manicured hands, you turn it and point it at yourself, and fire...

You're Caroline Ma, 32-years-old, you're a junior manager here. You've been working for five hours now, and you've got a break coming up shortly, once you help out the latest guest. You're dating a guy who works in town called... you remember your last birthday... you remember waking up this morning and having to rush to get ready for work... you've got a spin class tonight...

You stagger back, amazed. You're still you - there's no question about it - but you have all of Caroline's thoughts and memories. You simply reach for information, and it comes to you. You know the hotel layout. You know the emergency code for the guest rooms. You could use the system downstairs to duplicate a key to anywhere.

"Holy shit," you say, Carrie's voice framing the words with unfamiliarity - she doesn't like to swear if she can help it. You feel her breasts, still unused to the weight, and flick the long, silky black hair over your shoulders. Then you grin. Fiendishly, Carrie's lipstick-stained mouth twisting to an extreme angle as you decide what you are going to do.

Taking a moment to gather your thoughts, you decide that you're going to make the most of this. First, though, Carrie needs to get back on duty. It takes no effort at all, sat on the edge of your bed, to slip her uniform back on, tightening her belt, straightening the shirt, and slipping on her cheap nylon blazer. You tie back her - your - hair, clipping it in to place, before straightening her name badge. With a last flick of your manicured fingertips, you perfect her look.

You are Caroline Ma. There has never been another. And, with the exception of the pens and $10 tip tucked in your blazer pocket, you're no different to how you entered.

The lobby is hardly full as you walk behind the desk. Your colleagues barely give you a second glance, before you head to your console and bring up the information you want. As Carrie, you have access to the whole complex. You could try and be anyone you want - which is probably what your grandfather had in mind when he booked you in. A tear nurses the bottom of your oriental eyes as you think about him. He's given you a superpower. Though how he came by it you don't know. Nor do you want to think about what people would do to obtain it. Spy organizations would kill for such a tool.

You sigh, and take a look at the information the computer has brought up. You don't really want to stay as Carrie, even though she gives you unparalleled access. After all, what's the fun in working for a hotel? You're assuming, of course, that this isn't permanent, too.

Oh man, you suddenly pause. What if this is permanent? Now you really want to be out of Carrie's life as fast as possible. You want to make sure you can get out.

You look around. It's Spring Break, so there's lots of events going on: mostly on the beach and in nearby clubs tonight. You could definitely lose yourself there: find a guy who stands a better chance with girls, or maybe even be a college chick yourself.

But that's not all the hotel has to offer. There's the spa, for example: you could easily find someone to be who needs to relax, and use their top package to get the full benefits of the hotel. Carrie's mind also tells you there's some kind of convention going on in the hotel - something for the more nerdy college kids. Maybe that would be worth checking out too.

"Carrie, could you do a key for 801?" The voice to your side comes from one of your colleagues. That's the honeymoon suite. You look up and see the couple waiting. The guy is looking around impatiently, and the woman next to him is stunning: blonde hair around her neck, with a classic Hollywood style to her face - like a young Grace Kelly. Short, but with an incredible figure that Carrie herself would kill for. You smile and nod.

"Of course," you chirp, tapping up the key. You wonder if it might be fun to play honeymoon for the rest of the day as you pass over the key. You can see that the woman - the new Mrs April Landers - has booked some time in the spa today; obviously she wants to freshen up a little. Alternatively, maybe you could find someone else whose life might be interesting to try. Carrie knows the hotel holds various performances for the guests, and some of the dancers could be supermodels with their looks. Right now, you have an all-access pass...

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. Join the honeymoon

2. Try another life

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
