This choice: Become Officer O'Sullivan • Go Back... Being the owner might be nice and an easy way to scope out Jessica, if she is indeed coming here. But being a cop? That's so much more fun. Pulling people over, or detaining them for questioning on silly grounds, would make checking for Jessica quite easy. Plus as a bonus, Officer O'Sullivan is fairly easy on the eyes. She's in the restroom so getting her would also be far easier than it would the manager, even if the manager is prettier and in a more prime position.
That's even if the Baggio's hint was a real hint and not a red herring.
That settles it, you've made up your mind. You stand up and head over to the rest room. You stop for a moment and look around and when you're sure no one is looking you head into the women's restroom. You hope that there's nobody but Officer O'Sullivan in here. There wasn't a lot of customers, being the middle of the early afternoon, but there are still some girls working as baristas who might need to use the facilities. To your luck, however, you don't see anyone so quickly you duck into an open stall and wait. A moment or two later you hear a flush and a stall door open, then the sound of water from one of the sinks running.
This is your chance so quietly and slowly you open the door. You pull the pen from your pocket and once you're out of the stall see Officer O'Sullivan washing her hands. You aim it at her, you pause and your hand shakes a bit. This is all so weird. Are you really going to go through with it? You steel yourself, you get ready to fire the pen...
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
Officer O'Sullivan says those words in a neutral tone but it's one that causes you to freeze completely. How did she...? You look past her and right over her shoulder you see yourself. The mirror, of course! You curse yourself silently for being an idiot. She shuts the water off and dries her hands, then turns back to you.
"I've seen you around the high school before, haven't I?" she asks.
"Um, y-yeah. I guess." you reply nervously.
She sizes you up, "Yeah, I remember now. I've done some talks there. Talked to a few students individually some times. Donny, right?" she asks, "Or was it Danny? Denny? Davey? David! That's it! David Anderson. Yeah I know who you are."
That takes you by surprise. You don't think you've ever talked to her one on one before and you're fairly sure you've never told her your name. Still you don't protest as she continues.
"So, David, what are you doing in the ladies room, hmm?" she asks, her tone and face showing a hint of amusement. "Saw a woman walk in and thought you'd follow them for a bit of perverted fun, is that it?"
"I... I..." you stammer. Oh man, she's a cop, you're going to be in big trouble for this. Of course the pen could get you out but you're so surprised, so nervous, that you don't feel like you can move.
She looks and notices the pen as well. "Lemme see that." she orders and, nervously, you comply as she grabs it from you. She holds it up and examines it. "A pen, huh? Doesn't look like it writes though." She looks back at you, more seriously. "So what does it do? Don't answer that, because I have a theory. What I think it does, you point it at somebody and activate it. It zaps the person and deflates them, turning them into a sack of skin. Then you take the skin and you can wear it, like a suit or a costume, and it allows you to become the person. Am I right?"
"I, um... y-yeah." you reply. "How did... how did you know?"
Officer O'Sullivan looks at you with a smile before reaching her hands up to the back of the head, her face and head then peel forward before revealing the grinning face of your friend Jimmy Wilson. "Gotcha!" he exclaims.
* * * * *
"Jeez, Jimmy, you nearly had me pissing myself what the hell?" you ask as you sit next to him, now back as Officer O'Sullivan completely, in the cop's patrol car.
"While I'm in here it's Molly." she replies with a laugh, "And I'm sorry, man, but I couldn't help myself when I spotted you in the coffe house and especially when you came into the ladies room. That takes balls, never expected you to do that. That's usually my thing."
"How did you even get in there?" you ask, "Did you run into Jessica?"
Molly cocks an eyebrow at that. "Jessica? No. I found these things in my attic, accidentally used one on my mom, then figured I'd have some fun." she explains, "What's Jessica got to do with this?"
You then go over your story for your best friend-turned-cop. You tell her about going over to Jessica's, the pen that she showed you, the suit of Trish, how Jessica promised you any girl you wanted and then of the game of hide and seek you're playing with her where she's given you the pen.
Molly laughs even harder, "Gotta admit I'm surprised. That's pretty clever and fun and kinky on Jessica's part. Never thought she'd be the type to do that." She leans over to you, "Have to admit, I've always thought she was kind of an uptight prissy bitch. Nice to see she's got a bit of a fun streak in her though."
You let that insult towards your girlfriend pass by. "Well hey, do you think you can help me?" you ask. "She never said anything about not getting help."
"I could help you." Molly states with that cheshire cat grin that Jimmy gets when he's got an idea, "But I think I've got a better idea."
She then starts the car and drives. It's about ten minutes later and the two of you arrive at a fairly large, fancy house. "Holy shit, the mayor's place?"
Molly continues to smile. "Yeah. You wanted to be someone powerful, right? Who's more powerful in town than the mayor? She likes to have these little monthly open house hobnob events. It's open house but not quite everyone can get in, still I'm a cop so getting in will be no problem."
Molly drags you up to the front door where she greets a person. Like she said, being a cop she is able to get right in and gets you in by explaining that you're an at-risk youth she's been mentoring causing you to roll your eyes. You are both then given a red carnation, pinned to your shirts, to identify you as guests and are told to enjoy yourselves.
Molly then takes you to the side, away from prying eyes, and gives you your black pen back. "Here, take it dude. Have fun being the movers and shakers of the city. Oh, right!" she then pulls out a brown pen and hands it to you as well. "Guess Jessica either didn't have one like this or was holding something other than sex back. You take this brown pen and you zap someone with it. It'll give you all the information on the target, name and age and even memories. They'll fade quick unless you're wearing a suit of that person. It allows you to pull off a perfect impersonation."
She claps you on the shoulder and then walks off. You look down at the pens and then look at the red carnation on your shirt. Wait, a red carnation? A red flower! The red flowers that identify guests! Maybe Baggio's was just a red herring. This is definitely fancy, she would definitely be someone older here. Did Jimmy inadvertantly bring you right to where Jessica is? If so, where could she be? Who could she be? You scan the guests as you walk around. Almost all of them are older, most of them not particularly attractive. She said she'd be someone older but you're sure she doesn't want to be someone in their 50s or 60s.
You're about to give up hope when you hear two voices, two women. You're standing in a crowd near the entrance of a hallway as they come walking by and stop near you. One looks fairly young, the other slightly older. You recognize the older one as Tina Chan, the mayor, the younger one seems to be her assistant judging by the folders she's carrying.
"I swear, Jenny, this gets more than a little tiring." Mayor Chan says to the younger woman.
"I've told you before that you don't need to hold these gatherings so often, ma'am." the younger woman replies.
Mayor Chan shakes her head. "No, Jenny, I do. It keeps me visible and it's the easiest way to garner support. Speaking of which, I'll need you to go file those for me. They're guarantees of support both financially for future campaigns and for various projects and bills."
"Yes ma'am." the younger woman replies with in a manner that comes off as being plain but loyal.
"Thanks Jenny. I'll be in my room taking a quick break."
The two women then separate and the younger one, Jenny, heads into a nearby office. You thought she seemed familiar and you suddenly remember. She's Jenny Ishiyama. She went to the same high school as you and was a senior when you were a freshman. You were quite a nerd back then and she herself was quite nerdy as well. Brainy and studious but into a lot of the same stuff you were in back then, comic books and video games and such. She was your first girlfriend, actually, and your first kiss. She quite cute underneath her drab and messy dress. She still looks like something of a nerd, still serious-faced from what you saw, her hair pulled back in a messy bun and with dark-rimmed glasses. But it's all done in a way which makes her look nice.
Mayor Chan is quite young, 37 years old, and was elected last year. She's proved popular both because of her approachable nature and also because of her looks. She is a pretty lady no doubt and her close cropped bob and pantsuits give her a bit of a pretty executive vibe. Jessica is aware of your crush on her as well as Jenny being your ex-girlfriend. Could she be in one of them? They both had red carnations. You could use the pen on one and check the other. If you're wrong, well, then it's as simple as swapping skins and trying the one you had just been.
And if she's in neither? Well you're not going to complain. Being either Jenny or the mayor would be quite nice indeed. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
