As the carriage entered the Palace grounds Francesco could see just how much the Royal Palace was a symbol, a statement that told both it's citizens and foreigners of the power of Castile. In places, the Palace seemed more like a fortress, it had tall battlements and spires, solders in full armour lined the walls and high gates prevented anyone from entering uninvited. The carriage however took them around the side where the Royal Palace was grander and far more palace like. It stopped outside a great door where in line with a green carpet that had been placed for their benefit.
Francesco's father got out first, followed by his mother who rejoined Alberto next to her husbands side as Francesco still was stepping out the carriage. He shuffled along in order to catch his parents up. Beside the honour guard, there was nobody outside to meet him. Was that usual? Just as he was about to ask either of his parents, Francesco stopped himself. This wasn't a place where 'children' asked their parents questions, the idea of doing so did infuriate Francesco somewhat, though he didn't wish to show his father up infront of all the important people that could help secure his place, as well as Francesco's place as Gonfaloniere of Siècle.
"My Lord" a Castilian noblemen said bowing to Alberto, "My Lady... It is my immense pleasure to welcome to Castile."
"Thank you my Lord" Alberto started, "your city is beautiful, we are so pleased to be here."
Francesco tried not to smile at the complements, he imagined his father would give the exact same complements to the Aqutiaines and Mercians.
"Thank you" the noblemen smiled, as he guided them further into the palace, "as you should know the King is not in too good of health"
'Political speak for he's dying, no doubt', Francesco thought, as they walked he was constantly looking around, for boys his own age to start with... eventually anyone. The palace seemed deserted. 'Was the king dying keeping courtiers away' wondered, as they went though yet more rooms and corridors without seeing anyone.
