A week had passed since Prince Michael's ninth birthday and the family had returned earlier in the day to York after spending the last couple of the weeks in the capital, to the dismay of his father they were called to court to celebrate Michael's birthday; of course the Duke of York hated it, he couldn't abide the principle of a female monarch - Queen Mary in particular, but the Duchess had enjoyed it, belonging to a family as prominent as the Latimers she detested not being at the court. In the passed the wide eyed Prince hadn't cared either way, to Michael the Royal Palace was much the same as York Castle. But as the Duchess had tried to explain to the Duke, Michael had enjoyed it too. He loved seeing his cousins, he found the atmosphere of court exciting and had already asked several times when they were next going. Of course the Duchess mentioning this to the Duke had been a mistake, it had sparked a massive row, and after giving her son a kiss on the head the two had angrily parted ways to carry out their own respective duties.
