Claire woke up next morning in her bedroom. Phil had already left for a business trip, where he would be gone for a week. She went into the bathroom to get dressed, after she was naked from last night's events. The first thing she noticed is that her breasts were more sensitive, more than they had been in years. A violent surge of nausea ran over her, and she found herself at the toilet vomiting. "Ugh... too much wine last night, I guess...", she thought to herself.
She put on some jeans, a striped shirt, and the necklace, and then went into the kitchen to help the kids get ready for school. As usual, Haley and Alex were arguing, with Luke right in the middle of it. Claire decided to put a stop to their bickering. "Alex, Haley, stop it right now, or I will ground yo-" She was interrupted by her belly growling loudly. "What was that?!", Luke asked, bewildered. Claire remained silent, placing a hand on her belly, hoping that it would settle down. Claire then took the kids to school.
After dropping them off, Claire decided to get breakfast. She stopped at a fast food restaurant to quell her hunger. She ordered two orders of sausage, eggs, and pancakes. After eating, she noticed that her belly slightly curved out at the bottom, as if she had swallowed a baseball. She was at a stoplight, so she lifted up her shirt and felt the small bump. It was firm, but had some give to it. "Must be bloated.", she thought to herself. The light turned green, and she returned home.
At the house, she began to feel tired from the large breakfast, so she decided to take a nap. An hour later, she noticed that it was about 10:30, and she heard her phone ring. Gloria was calling, wondering if she wanted to go shopping at the mall with her. "Uh, I don't know, Gloria-". Just then, she caught a glimpse of her belly in the mirror, and saw that it had grown again, making her look three months pregnant. "Actually, on second thought, that sounds fun!" Gloria would pick her up in a few minutes, and she hung up. Lifting up her shirt, she rubbed her swollen belly. "Looks like I might need bigger clothes", she said to herself, the necklace still around her neck. Not wanting Gloria to become suspicious of her "bloated" belly, she put on a light jacket, which hid the bump well.
Gloria picked up Claire, and they were on their way. Minutes later, they arrived at the mall. Not wanting Gloria to see her belly, she put her hands in her jacket's pockets. The two made their way to the food court, as it was time for lunch. Gloria didn't eat much, not wanting to ruin her perfect figure. Claire, however, found her appetite expanding, mimicking her mysterious growing belly. "Wow, you're eating a lot, Claire, are you alright?" "Yep, uh, I'm perfect!" Soon after that, they went into a clothing department.
Claire went looking for clothes to accommodate her growing belly, while Gloria looked for clothes that would show off her body. The two quickly found what clothes they were looking for, and wanted to try them on. Gloria was making her way to the dressing rooms, with Claire already in a room. She noticed that her belly had gotten bigger, making her look four months pregnant. She took her shirt off, and was about to put on the larger shirt, when Gloria bust into the dressing room. "Oh Claire! I'm so sorry, I didn't see you in here!" Her eyes were brought down to Claire's swollen belly, alarming her. "What happened to your stomach!?", she said,"You look pregnant!" Claire placed her hands on her taut belly. "Well, I'm not pregnant, I know that. This started earlier this morning, I'm just bloated, that's all." Gloria felt Claire's belly. "It feels like a pregnant belly, but I guess you know best." After that, Claire tried on her other clothes, and made purchases. They decided that that was all that they should buy, and they started to head home.
Once they arrived at the Dunphy's, Gloria asked a question. "Claire, that necklace is so beautiful. I was wondering, could I borrow it." "Oh yeah, sure!" "Also, I'm no doctor, but I think that you should get that checked out.", she said, gesturing to Claire's belly. Claire said that she would think about it, and Gloria offered to take her to the doctor's whenever she needed it.
Inside, Claire wondered if she should see a doctor, rubbing her belly, which felt oddly good, as she did so.
