..... a pink dress, white tights and a pair of black mary jane shoes. With exception of some dress up princess costume, you couldn't think of a girlier combination and it was exactly if mom had raided Ella's old clothes from when she was a kid. "Mom!" you screamed in an outraged voice.
"Sorry Jazz, but this was the first thing I grabbed. I didn't want to leave you alone" mom apologized.
"Really?" you scoffed.
"I know you wouldn't like it, but it does serve a purpose" mom said in the same apologetic voice that made you think it was deliberate. You couldn't believe the only thing available was something really girly.
"Like what? Making me look like a mini Ella? Do you have any idea of what she is going to do to me? Plus everyone else is going to laugh the instant they realize it's me. No way mom. I'm not wearing that outfit" you protested.
"Jazz. This proves you still got your mind in there, which is good. The other thing is you're not used to sitting as a girl. I don't want you embarrassing yourself by flashing your panties. That's why girls your age wear tights. You would have had them, even if I saw a skirt."
"Jeans would stop me from flashing myself" you argued. "Why would I want to go outside anyway?"
"There weren't any jeans, and you'd have to go outside unless you rather stay like this. I have to get you to undergo a medical" mom said a little more forcibly.
"Okay, I accept that. but still..... pink dresses" you said.
"Twenty dollars. its what is left over from buying all this" mom said. You closed your eyes; while your family wasn't poor, they weren't rich either. You knew mom needed every dollar she had. Hesitantly, you grabbed the tights and slid them onto your feet and pulled them up your legs. Mom then handed you the shoes, causing you to scowl. They were a clear symbol of girliness, and you didn't want them on your feet, clicking every time you took a step. And or course, the pink dress was worse. "I can't do this.."
"Yes, you can, Jasmine. It's only clothes" mom soothed, but your eyes grew wide. "Jasmine?!"
