Hannah headed towards the bathroom to jump in the shower when she heard the doorbell ring. She rolled her eyes and turned back around to get the door.
"Hannah, you will never believe what happened to me today!"
"Anna -"
Without waiting for Hannah to invite her in, Anna Perkins let herself in, dropping her seemingly 20-pound purse on the floor, knocking over a house plant and spilling soil all over Hannah's freshly vacuumed carpet.
"Oh jeez," Anna laughed, "Am I clumsy or what? You will never believe what happened to me today, though!"
Hannah looked in disbelief at the pile of dirt on the floor she had just cleaned so carefully, but didn't have time to say anything about it as Anna rushed on to tell her story.
"Okay, so I'm at Sak's looking for a business suit for my interview next week, blue, I'm looking for blue, because I look really good in blue, and I pick out all these blue suits, and I'm thinking I can't decide between a long skirt and a short skirt, so I head towards the dressing room, and I walk right in without asking, and bump straight into this guy. It was the men's dressing room, can you believe it?" Anna giggled, and then went on. "Okay so I drop all these suits on the ground, and the dressing room lady is like freaking out about all the clothes because they might get wrinkly or something but this guy is SO HOT!"
"Wait a minute," Hannah finally interrupted, "You have a job interview next week? You didn't tell me that!"
"Yeah, it's with Parker and Barnes, but I'm pretty sure I'll get it 'cause my cousin works there, but anyway, about this guy. He picks up my clothes and hands them to me, and I'm like all flustered about it and I don't even remember what I said, but he smiled at me and I nearly died of the joy of it. So anyway, I go to the women's dressing room and try on all my clothes and I pick out this awesome blue suit, which turns out to be a short skirt with a jacket that would make anyone want to hire me, if you know what I mean! But anyway, after I bought the suit, I stopped by the yogurt shop to get a snack, and there is the guy, sitting at a table all by himself! I didn't want to be obvious, but I went over and sat with him and we had the best talk! Anyway, I invited him over tonight and I think we might go out to eat or something!"
Anna had to stop at that point to take a breath, which Hannah took as a good sign that she could safely begin to ask Anna questions without being interrupted.
"Um, Anna, don't you think you should be at home? Um, cleaning your apartment? Your roommates don't really seem keen on washing dishes and it really smelled when I came over yesterday," Hannah said, wrinkling her nose at the memory of messy Anna's living space, which was a stark contrast against Hannah's neatly-kept and well-decorated apartment.
"Well, that's the thing," Anna went on, "I wasn't about to invite him to MY house, so I gave him your address."
"What??" Hannah practically shouted.
"Hannah!" Anna whined, "You know I couldn't have a guy over to my place, he would take one look at my roommates and turn around and leave. Besides, this guy was totally clean cut, I can tell he goes for the organized and clean type."
"Well, Anna, you're NOT the organized and clean type, so why waste your time?"
"Well, duh, reason number TWO I gave him your address. That way he thinks that I live here and will think that I AM organized and clean."
"I can't believe you!" exclaimed Hannah, "I JUST moved in and I'm all hot and sweaty and tired and you invited a guy over to my house."
"I know, but it'll just be this once, maybe just a few times after this. Look, I'm going to run home and change and get ready, he should be here at 7 tonight, okay? I'll be back in like an hour."
Hannah glanced at the clock, which read 5:45. Anna was notorious for being late and flighty, which was precisely why Hannah was not more surprised at the occurances of the evening, but Hannah was not about to greet Anna's man only to wait with him for an hour while Anna finished re-applying the tenth shade of lipstick.
"Anna, I swear to you that if you are even one minute late, I will never talk to you again!"
"I promise!" Anna replied, and grabbed her weight-lifter's purse to leave. "I gotta run, but I promise I'll be back by 6:59!"
With that, Anna ran out the door, and Hannah could hear her 5-inch clogs stomping down the stairs. Hannah rolled her eyes again, and got the vacuum out to take care of the dirt on the floor.
