Back at his desk in London, Interpol agent Ryan Smith, 36, was sat doodling on the piece of paper sat in front of him. He was normally busy but today was a slow day, everyone hunted by the organization was doing a good job of staying hidden from them. "Working hard as always?" one of Ryan's female colleagues smirked as she threw a newspaper on the desk.
Rebecca Knowles, 28, was a junior agent at Interpol, a bright young woman with wavy, shoulder-length black hair. Professionally attired in a dark grey trouser suit, white blouse and a pair of black high heels. What she lacked in experience she made up for with determination, and Ryan knew this. "Hey, doodling takes a lot of concentration" Ryan mumbled in response to Rebecca's acerbic statement, as he sat up straight.
"Hm, I bet it does!" Rebecca smirked. "Any news on Fredrico?" she then asked, referring to an international fraudster the two had been after catching for the last year or so. She seemed disappointed but not surprised when Ryan just shook his head. "Oh well, I'm sure he'll rear his ugly head some time" Rebecca said, trying to stay positive, then she walked off, her heels clicking on the floor as she went. Ryan watched his colleague walk away, cursing the fact that she was already engaged to her long-time boyfriend Chris. He liked Rebecca a lot, but he'd kept his feelings for her a secret. He sighed as he picked up the paper and glanced at the front page, then he started flicking through it. He stopped when he saw the article on Page 3: Bodies pulled from China river. The bodies of a German man and two Russians had been discovered in a car at the bottom of a river in Guangzhou, China. After reading the article, Ryan recognized the description of the German, tall, blonde, neatly groomed, immaculately dressed.
"Hey Becky, come over here a minute!" Ryan called out to his colleague.
"What now?" Rebecca answered as she sashayed over to Ryan's desk. Leaning over, a frown suddenly appeared on her face when she started reading the article. "You think its Hans Greschler?" she inquired.
"I'd say that's a good guess" Ryan nodded.
Hans Greschler was a known drug smuggler and murderer who was also on Interpol's list of wanted criminals. He was also very careful and good at what he did, which puzzled Ryan as to why he had died in a simple 'car accident' with two other men. "Contact Beijing, ask them for all the information they've got on this" Ryan politely 'instructed' Rebecca, who just nodded and picked up the phone.
Ryan just sat there, staring at the grainy picture of the car being dragged from the river. There was something 'wrong' about all this, and he was determined to find out what it was.
