"Hey," said Ted, staring at the screen. "It's Pat."
You continued to join him in watching the computer formulate an exact 3D model replica of your roommate's best friend. She was a short, chubby girl who had a pear shape going on with her body. She was also a bit of a ditz, though she was kind enough around you and meant well. The two of them bartended together when they weren't hanging around your dorm.
Once her image had been crafted on the monitor, a new message flashed up on the screen. PRINTING.
The printer whirled and rumbled violently, making you both think it was about to explode. Bright green lights flashed around the room as the machine started to work overtime. You backed away from the device.
Then, after a few short minutes, everything was silent.
Ted risked creeping over first, wanting to make sure nothing had been damaged in his apartment. The printer appeared to be smoking as he stepped up to the keyword. He then looked over along the side, where there was a large output tray.
"Holy crap!" he shouted.
"What?" you asked, expecting the worst.
He dug around the container and held up a pale, smoking object. At first glance, you thought it was a cheesy Halloween costume. But as you focused on the details of the mass of fake flesh, you realized that there was a blonde wig attached to it. Suddenly, you recognized the facial features portrayed on the mask part of the suit.
"Holy shit! It's Patricia!"
"I know!" replied Ted. "This is thing is exactly her size and dimensions too, from the looks of it."
"But how?" you raised an eyebrow, glancing over to the resting printer. "All we did was give it a 2D photograph as a source. How could it properly determine size and width through that information?"
"I dunno, dude. But it's kinda cool."
"I guess," you walked over to feel up the material of the Pat suit. "What do you want to do with it?"
"I dunno. You want to wear it?"
You stretched out the arm of the suit only to discover that it was very elastic-like. You were sure you could fit into it, even with the difference in size between you and Pat. You'd have to get in through the mouth though, as there didn't appear to be another entrance. The material also felt incredibly life-like. It was almost like touching girl's skin with its smoothness and texture.
"Maybe," you muttered. "But we also know this thing works. We can print other stuff too. It's just weird that it was able to put a to-scale suit with only a photograph."
Ted seemed open to trying anything as he handed you the Pat suit. "It's up to you, bro."
