The lizard people know the swamps better than a...

Sir Garrett decided he needed to talk to the lizard men because they would know what was going on with the dread swamp with a little luck. It was there home and they were likely to want the threat gone as much as the King did so he was hopeful they would be allies against the dangers. He had met the species on several occasion and they had always been honorable with him. Lizardmen were often recruited by powerful monsters to serve as an army under threat of death or destruction.

The village he was looking for was at the edge of the swamp and one of the largest communities of lizard men he knew of. To his surprise, he saw a small wooden barricade had been erected around the village. Several of the lizard men stepped forward with drawn blades at his approach so he got off his horse and walked towards them slowly because it looked like they had already encountered the danger of the swamp and it had made them very nervous about strangers.”

“I am Sir Garrett of the Kingdom of Dar,” the paladin tried to calm the fears of the lizard men. “I have come to do battle with the evil rising in the swamp. I hope you can supply me with information or help in ending the threat to your people and mine.”

Nodding in acknowledgment of his words they opened the gate for him and motioned him through. The larger one waved for him to follow and Sir Garrett complied with the request, keeping his eyes open to what was going on in the village. Many he saw were missing limbs or bandaged and for a race that healed quickly, that was very worrisome. He entered a large hut with many herbs and fragrances filling the air. It appeared he had entered the home of the shaman.

It appeared the shaman was cooking something over the fire, food or a magical formula he wasn’t sure. The shaman was missing one eye and the scales looked like the color had dulled with time. The creature observed the human entering for a couple of moments before turning to the lizard man who seemed to explain why he was here in their native tongue. He waved the large lizard man off after he was done talking and motion for Sir Garrett to sit. Sir Garrett sat as the shaman reached back to pull out a container of herbs that he offered the paladin. The shaman motioned for him to eat the herbs.

Sir Garrett hesitated because he suspected they had hallucinating qualities to them and he wanted to keep a clear head if he was going to have to fight some sort of monster. He didn’t want to offend the shaman by not taking it, perhaps he could ask for someone to help him translate so he could be clear about what he was saying and why he was denying the request. He would have to decide soon as the shaman was gesturing again.
