“A boat trip sounds splendid,” Sir Garrett responded. “Hide your insignias of your royal lineage because we will have enough trouble without dealing with any potential assassin or kidnappers. I will collect my squire and you can make the boat arrangements.”
Sir Garrett didn’t take long to collect his squire who was thrilled to be invited on the quest. The Princess bought passage aboard a public transport because it would help provide anonymity she said but Sir Garrett suspected she wanted to live among some of the commoners who she never had contact with. Albert, Sir Garrett’s squire, had discovered the life of a sailor was not for him as he spent most of the voyage at the edge of the boat in various stages of illness.
The paladin was disappointed he wasn’t able to have much alone time with Fina but the happiness he saw on her face as she talked as a normal person instead of having to put on the airs of nobility made him smile. Sir Garrett kept busy by checking their gears to make sure it was all there and properly stored for the journey, so they wouldn’t have to make any more stops then necessary. The rocking of the boat had little effect on the veteran traveler and he moved swiftly about his work.
It took longer by boat to arrive at the swamp then it would have by land but the travel would be easier and safer for the less experienced travelers like the Princess and his squire, but the time passed swiftly and it wasn’t long before they arrived in Port Crane. Port Crane was a small trade village that dealt mostly in manufactured goods with the lizard men. It would be the last civilization before the dangers of the swamps.
“We have been invited to stay at the Nelson’s farm before we head into the swamp,” Fina smiled. “Where do you think we should stay?”
