After Miranda left at work, Evan still had a bit of time before the bus came for school. Looking in the mirror, he realized he hadn't yet applied his makeup. He groaned thinking about that. Apparently, Miranda consider cosmetics part of her wardrobe as well. Evan wanted to ignore it, but he found that he couldn't. The fact that he swapped how he treated things as well, meant he had to care. Luckily, that also seemed to mean that he was able to apply it all with ease.
When he was done, he admired himself in the mirror. He could totally pass for a girl if not for his boyish haircut, and that was sort of eating at him. Ultimately, he selected one of Miranda's hats to hide it as best as he could. Now he could really pass as a girl! Despite feeling confident and proud, he couldn't help but wonder if he SHOULD feel confident and proud. Something was still eating at him about this.
It all began to make sense when he walked onto the school bus.
"Hey, here comes the faggot!" A boy in the back of the bus shouted.
"I heard Evan's getting estrogen treatments this summer," He heard another girl loudly whisper as he passed.
"I heard he got his penis removed," The girl sitting next to her whispered back.
Evan sat uncomfortably in his seat. Even though no one considered it out of the ordinary for Evan to be wearing women's clothing, everyone was still treating him like a boy who normally wears a dress. In his school, that sort of thing wasn't exactly treated with kindness. He quickly tried to hide by sliding into a seat next to Jen.
"Just ignore those assholes," Jen sighed, "I think you look pretty today. I'm sure the rest of the Drama Club will too!"
"Thanks," Evan barely got the word out when a kid sitting behind them dumped juice on his and Jen's heads.
Evan was seething. What he was wearing was dry clean only, and Miranda's care and concern was coming through in Evan as pure rage.
